Insert A Sd Card Into A Laptop Computer

A USB multi-card reader allows a laptop to use an SD card if a card reader is not built in.

Most new laptops as of 2010 have an SD memory card reader built into the machine, which is used by inserting the SD card into the card reader slot. But many laptops made before 2005 do not include a built-in device to read the SD cards commonly used with digital cameras and mobile phones. This functionality can be added to any laptop by using a USB multi-card reader, which plugs into a USB port on the laptop and can read a variety of memory card formats. The multi-card reader is shown as an additional drive on the computer.

Instructions

Using a Multi-Card Reader

1. Plug the multi-card reader cable into a USB port on the computer. The operating system may not respond when the reader is plugged in, only when an SD card is inserted. No drivers are needed for these devices, as they use standard operating system drivers.

2. Plug the SD card into the multi-card reader. It should be detected by the laptop and added as a new drive on the computer.

3. Browse to the new drive, and you will be able to copy files to and from the SD card as you would with a USB flash drive or an external hard drive.

Using a Built-in Card Reader

4. Insert the SD card into the laptop card reader slot, typically designated by "SD/XD" or other types of memory cards.

5. Open Explorer by right-clicking on the Windows "Start" button. Click on the drive letter that represents the SD card reader to see the files stored on the card.

6. Drag files from the card to the computer to back them up, or copy files onto the card to add them to another device, such as an MP3 player.

Types Of Nokia Cell Phones

Types of Nokia Cell Phones

The first Nokia mobile phone, the Mobira Talkman, was produced in 1984. Since that time, the company has been at the forefront of cell phone technology and entertainment; Nokia developed the first Internet-connected cell phone and made the world's first satellite call. Nokia now offers many models of cell phones in four broad categories.

Flip

Also known as clamshell phones or folding phones, flip phones protect the keys of a cell phone from being accidentally pressed. Flip phones have two halves connected by a hinge, with the top half displaying the screen and the bottom half featuring the keypad and other buttons. Flip phones are sized so that they fit easily within a pocket.

Many models of flip phones display a small screen on the outside of the phone showing the time, date and caller information while the phone remains closed. Nokia flip phone models include the Nokia 2720 and the Nokia 6103. These phones, according to cell phone comparison website Phone Rated, rank among the best flip phones based on average user ratings. The Nokia 2720 is available on AT&T, while the 6103 is available for T-Mobile customers.

Slider

Like flip phones, slider phones keep the keypad of the cell phone from accidentally being pressed. But instead of a flip design, sliders feature a horizontal or vertical slide design. Slider phones tend to have a larger display screen than flip phones and are designed so that the phone can be opened with one hand. The Nokia 6700 slide, for example, slides up vertically to reveal the keypad. Some Nokia models combine features. The Nokia N900 features a touch screen and slides open to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard.

Twist

Twist phones are a more recent addition to the cell phone market. Rather than flip open for the keyboard or slide, twist phones combine features of both. These phones are often more square than rectangular and feature a display screen on the front panel. The phone then opens up to reveal a physical keyboard. Instead of sliding up or flipping out, these phones require a twist action similar to unscrewing a lid. Nokia offers one twist phone, the Nokia 7705 Twist.

Touch Screen

Nokia also offers touch screen phones. Rather than relying on directional pads or keyboard input for functions, touch screen phones allow for the use of nothing more than a touch of a finger to navigate through the phone's features. Touch screen phones can come with a physical keyboard, making them touch screen sliders, or completely do away with a physical keyboard and rely only on an on-screen keyboard. Nokia produces a number of touch screen phones, including the Nokia C6, the Nokia N8 and the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

Troubleshoot Bluetooth Nokia N82 Operation

Troubleshoot Bluetooth Nokia N82 Operation

The Nokia N82 is a brick-style handset that features an integrated HD camera, application support and integrated GPS navigation. In addition to these features, the Nokia N82 also features Bluetooth connectivity. If you are having some issues getting your Bluetooth peripheral to connect to your Nokia N82 or are experiencing intermittent problems, you can try these troubleshooting steps to remedy common problems.

Instructions

1. Re-sync your Bluetooth device. If it has been a long time since you have used a particular Bluetooth device with your phone, it may have fallen out of sync. To re-sync your device, press the "Menu" button then select "Tools" followed by "Bluetooth." Put your Bluetooth peripheral in "Pairing Mode" then select "On" from the "Bluetooth Connectivity" menu on the phone. Once the connection has been established, enter the peripheral's security code (if you are using a headset, this code is 0000 by default) then press the "Menu" button to exit the Bluetooth utility.

2. Move out of range of other Bluetooth devices. If you have a Bluetooth-enabled game console or computer very close to the phone or device you are trying to sync, the competing signal may be interfering with your phone's Bluetooth signal. Try syncing again in a different area.

3. Verify that both the Bluetooth headset and the Nokia N82 are fully charged. Because Bluetooth syncing takes a lot of battery power, if either of your devices are not fully charged, the sync operation may not complete.

4. Remove some Bluetooth connections. If you have your phone connected to several different peripherals and you can't get a particular one to work, you may have too many synced devices. To delete a synced device, press the "Menu" button, select "Options" then go to the "Paired Devices" menu. Highlight the device you want to delete then press the "Menu" button. Select "Delete" to terminate all connections with the device.

2. Turn on the Bluetooth headset. Add the device to Bluetooth applications on your computer. On Windows, Bluetooth can be accessed via the Bluetooth icon in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. Open it and click "Add Device". From the provided list find your Bluetooth headset and select it to pair the device with your computer. On Macs click on the Bluetooth icon on the bar in the top right hand corner of the screen. From the drop down menu click on the "Setup Bluetooth Device" option. The Bluetooth Setup Assistant guides you through the process of adding your headset.

3. Open the Skype application. In Skype for Windows open the "Tools" menu and click "Options". Select "Sound Devices" and choose "Bluetooth Audio" for both the audio in and out options. In Skype for Mac, open the "Skype" menu and click on "Preferences". Select the "Audio" tab and change the audio options for both in and out to "Bluetooth headset".

The Origin Of Voip

VoIP isn't so old.

"VoIP" means "Voice over Internet Protocol." The first VoIP system was developed by Vocaltec in 1995. This ran on a PC, but because of transfer speeds, it wasn't a viable alternative to traditional telephones.

Before Broadband

Private local area networks (LANs) had speed and capacity to carry interactive conversations before the Internet. The H.323 Protocol, published by the International Telecommunication Union in 1996, created standards for transmission over LANs.

Development

With the creation of broadband, these standards were adapted for use over the Internet. H.323 became officially identified as an Internet compatible standard in 1998. By 2000, VoIP traffic accounted for 3 percent of calls in the United States.

Commercialization

Uptake of the service increased with the creation of companies such as Skype and Vonage. Interest in the service was increased once service providers began to exchange calls. Once public telephone companies allowed VoIP traffic over their networks, the service could function like a regular home phone. This normalization of the service was improved with the introduction of Analog Telephone Adapters, which meant that regular home telephones could be used for a VoIP service.

Connect A Cd Player To Multiple Receivers Simultaneously

CD players usually come with multiple outputs.

CD players generally come equipped with more than one output option, making it possible to connect one CD player to multiple receivers simultaneously. Typical output options include the (analog) line output, the digital output, and the optical output. When you connect your CD player to one audio receiver, you get to choose the type of output you'd like to use. When you connect your CD player to multiple audio receivers, you simply make use of all of your output options.

Instructions

Connecting Your CD Player to One Audio Receiver Using the Analog Output

1. Unplug your CD player and audio receiver before making your connections.

2. Plug one end of your RCA audio cables into the RCA output sockets on the back of your CD player. Match the red cord tip to the red socket. Match the white (or black) cord tip to the white socket.

3. Plug the other end of the RCA audio cables into one of the RCA line input sockets on your first audio receiver.

Connecting Your CD Player to a Second Audio Receiver Using the Digital Output

4. Make sure the power cord is unplugged from the receiver before making your connections.

5. Plug one end of your 75-ohm coaxial cable into the "digital output" socket on the back of your CD player.

Fix A Loss Packet Error

Data transfer is the primary job of most computer systems.

Packet errors occur when small packages of data get lost traveling across a computer network. Data is sent via "packets" from one computer to another. When the data packets get lost, performance issues occur that make applications such as online gaming and downloading difficult. IT professionals can be brought in to troubleshoot and repair the problem, but the cost can be great. Many packet loss problems can be resolved with little effort. Use a few simple techniques to fix this problem and save the cost of calling in a professional.

Instructions

1. Loose cables can cause transmission problems such as lost data packets.

Check all connections. Loose cables and power cords can cause transmission problems. Check the connections and cables that go from the wall to the router. Look for crimps and tears in the cable and cords. Replace any damaged wiring. Even a small crimp in a line can cripple data transmission.

2. Reset the router and modem. Turn the computer off. Modems are built into most computers, so shutting down the computer will reset the internal modem. Unplug the power cord from the router. Leave both the router and computer turned off for three minutes. Plug the router's power cord back into the router. Allow two minutes for the router to reset itself. Turn the computer on. Allow five minutes for the computer and router to sync with one another before checking the system.

3. Connect the computer directly into the router with an Ethernet cable. Plug the cable into the computer's Ethernet jack. Plug the other end of the cable into one of the router's Ethernet jacks. Wireless routers can malfunction when electrical interference or physical objects block their transmission path. A direct connection eliminates this problem.

4. Install any available driver updates for the router. As the computer's operating system updates, older drivers used for hardware devices, such as a router, need updating as well. Check the computer's firewall settings to make sure that updates from the router's manufacturer and the Internet service provider are not blocked. The firewall can be accessed by opening up the control panel and selecting firewall settings. Check-mark the box next to the router manufacturer's name and the Internet service provider. Close the window.

5. Check the DSL or phone's dial-up line. Use the telephone to listen to the line. A crackling hum indicates problems with the physical connection. Check the phone jacks for loose wires. Make sure the phone's cord plugs firmly into the phone's wall jack. The male end of the cord should fit tightly into the female jack at both the wall and the router.

6. Clean up temporary files daily. Use the "Disk Cleanup" program or a second-party file cleaner. To access the "Disk Cleanup" program, go to the "Program Files" menu and select "Accessories." Choose "System Tools" and click on "Disk Cleanup." Check-mark all the selection boxes and run the cleaner. If problems persist, call the Internet service provider for additional assistance.

What Is The File Extension Amr

The .AMR file extension type is used in association with the Adaptive Multi-Rate ACELP Codec for speech encoding and compression in cell phone systems. .AMR files are found in cell phones and their networks. In 3G cell phone networks, information compressing software is used to enable large amounts of information to travel on limited band width.

Function

The .AMR ACELP coder lowers the rate of speech compression as interference on the network increases, insuring a clear signal. ACELP is an algorithm that stands for Algebraic Code Excited Linear Prediction.

Benefits

Standards among different cellular systems codecs are kept coordinated through the the .AMR ACELP coders. They are also used to compress speech files for conversion to .MP3.

Other Sources

Adaptive Multi-Rate Codecs are found in MMS files, or message with sound, picture and text, in cell phones.

Manufacturer

Sony Erickson is credited with first developing the .AMR speech compression format.

Systems

Apple's Quicktime and RealNetworks RealPlayer make media players that will convert .MP3 files to .AMR for downloading onto cellphones. Miksoft also makes a converter for switching .MP3 and .wav sound files to .AMR files and back.

Set Up Multiple Email Accounts In Gmail

Google's Gmail service is capable of acting as a full-fledged email client, allowing users to add multiple outside addresses that can then send mail using Google's servers as well as receive mail in the user's Gmail inbox. Gmail is only capable of working with POP accounts, so any external address with only IMAP support will not work. The set up mimics that of any desktop email client, so most users can copy and paste their settings directly into Gmail.

Instructions

1. Log into your Gmail account with your username and password. Click the "Settings" link, then the "Accounts and Import" tab.

2. Click the "Add POP3 email account" button. Enter the account's email address, then click "Next."

3. Enter the account's username, password, and the POP mail server. This will be the mail server listed under the Incoming section of your desktop email client.

4. Change the port number and any options if necessary. Most addresses will work fine with the default settings. Click the "Add Account" button to begin receiving email in your Gmail inbox from your POP account.

Export The Contacts From The Nokia 6120 To An Excel File

Getting information off of a Nokia cell phone is simple, with the utilities Nokia provides.

Nokia's 6120 phone (and several more recent models) can store more information in the phone's memory than it can write reliably to the SIM card. Getting your contacts off of the phone is the purview of a specialized piece of software called Nokia PC Suite, a free download from Nokia. This software can also export the contacts into several formats, some of which you can open within Excel. Once in Excel, it's fairly easy to sort them and trim away unwanted contacts or contacts that are no longer valid.

Instructions

Getting Contacts Off the Phone

1. Download Nokia's PC Suite from the company's website (see Resources). Be sure to enter the model number (6120) into the search function to get the version that supports your model of phone.

2. Click on the "Install" button.

3. Plug in your Nokia phone to the computer with the mini USB charging cable.

4. Launch Nokia PC Suite and click on the "Synchronize" button. This will download all of your phone's contacts to the PC program.

5. Click on the "File" menu item within Nokia PC Suite and select "Export." Choose "CSV" as the exported file format; this exports the contacts as comma-separated values. Save the file someplace where you can find it easily.

Converting Contacts to Excel

6. Open Excel.

7. Click on the "Office" button (Excel 2007) or the "File" menu item (Office 2003 and earlier) and select "Open."

8. Select the file you saved from Nokia PC Suite. Excel will open it, with each contact on its own row and each piece of information about the contact in its own column.

9. Click on the "Office" button (Excel 2007) or the "File" menu item (Excel 2003 and earlier) and select "Save As." Choose "Native Excel" as the file format, and your contacts will be in an Excel spreadsheet.

Nokia E90 Tricks

The E90 features a call log, which records the length of your conversations.

Your Nokia E90 is more than just a phone that places calls and sends text messages. It includes all kinds of helpful functions and features to help you through your day, such as a message reader, unit/measurement converter and a barcode scanner. Knowing your phone's extra features will allow your phone to operate more effectively and efficiently.

Converter

Your phone features a built-in converter that performs conversions between units and currencies. This is helpful if you're at the grocery store and need to align the unit of a food product with a recipe, or if you're in another country and need to figure the amount of money to tip your cab driver. You can access the converter by pushing the "Menu" button, selecting "Office" and then "Converter." You'll be prompted to select which unit or currency you would like to convert. To convert measurements, use the four-way navigation button to scroll to "Type," "Options" and "Conversion Type." A list of measures will appear. Choose the one you like, specify the unit and enter the value for the field you wish to convert in the "Amount" field. The converted amount will appear in the blank "Amount" field.

Message Reader

Make reading your text messages easier by activating the built-in message reader, which reads text messages back to you at the press of a button. Activate the feature by holding down the left navigation key when you receive a text message. To begin the automatic reading of your text message (or email) push the soft key beneath "Options" and then "Listen." You will hear the message being read aloud. To skip to the next message, push the navigation button down. To go to the beginning of the message push the navigation key up. Scroll left or right to turn the volume of the voice down or up, respectively. Stop the reading by pushing the "End" key. If you'd like to adjust the voice properties, push "Menu," "Tools" and then "Speech."

Barcode Reader

Among your phone's handy features is a rare function in the cell phone world called the "Barcode Reader." This function actually scans and decodes two-dimensional barcodes, such as those found in magazines. The codes feature information such as email addresses and phone numbers. You can begin scanning barcodes by accessing your phone's camera. While in camera mode, select "Scan Code." You will see red lines on your display. Place the barcode within the red lines and you will see the information decoded on the display. Save the information by pushing "Options" and then "Save."

Hang An Outdoor Wreath On Windows

How Do I Hang an Outdoor Wreath on Windows?

Wreaths are a festive way to add holiday decorations to the outside of your house. These decorations showcase your holiday spirit and make guests and visitors feel welcome before they even enter your home. If you want to display Christmas wreaths on the outside of a window, inexpensive adhesive plastic hooks can make your job easy. Does this Spark an idea?

Adhesive Hooks

Adhesive hooks are small, inexpensive plastic hooks you can buy from most retailers and hardware stores. They have an adhesive back that can be stuck to nearly any surface. Good-quality sticky hooks can hold up to several pounds of weight.

To get started, remove the protective backing from the adhesive hook and stick the hook to the window. Using your thumbs, press the hook firmly against the glass and hold for 10 seconds. This will ensure that the hook is firmly attached to the window.

Test

Once the hook is attached to the window, test the hook's strength by lightly tugging it from side to side to see if it wiggles. If the hook stays firmly in place on the glass, it is safe to hang a wreath from. If the hook wiggles, try pressing your thumbs against it for another 10 seconds. If the hook will not stick firmly, you are using a low-quality adhesive hook and need to buy a better brand.

Hang

Hang the wreath on the hook. If you are worried that the weight of the wreath is too much for the hook, adhere two sticky hooks side-by-side and hang the wreath from both. The sticky hook will be hidden by the top of the wreath, so you will not be able to see how the wreath is attached to the window. When the Christmas season is over, simply remove the wreath and pull the hooks off the glass. If any adhesive residue remains, simply wipe it down with glass cleaner.

Other options

If you don't want to use adhesive hooks on your windows, suction cup hooks are another option for small, lightweight wreaths. However, these do not tend to be as durable as adhesive hooks and may not be able to support a heavy wreath.

Tricks With The Nokia E63

The Nokia E63 is a bar-style mobile phone with a full keyboard. The E63 was released in 2009 for users on GSM networks. Since the E63 uses GSM technology, it needs a SIM card to function properly. The Nokia E63 has a 2.0 megapixel digital camera, 3G and Wi-Fi Internet connectivity and a memory card slot that holds up to 16 gigabytes.

Security

The E63 has two methods to lock the phone so that unauthorized users cannot do anything with it. The first is to set a lock code. Go to "Menu," select "Tools" and pick "Settings." Go to "General" and pick "Security." Select "Phone and SIM Card" and go to "Lock Code." Enter the default code, which is "12345," then enter a new one between four and 255 characters. You also can go to "Allow Remote Lock" from the "Phone and SIM Card" screen and type a special message that you can text to the phone to lock it.

Button Shortcuts

Hold down "0" to access the Internet or "1" to check your voice mail. While visiting a website, press "*" to zoom in or "#" to zoom out. Press "2" to search and "0" to scroll through your favorites. The "2" through "9" buttons will dial the people set up for speed dialing. When you hold down the corresponding button, you will call the person that is listed at that number on the speed dial.

Calendar

From the main menu, go to "Tools" and choose "Calendar." Go to "Options" and select "New Entry" to set up an appointment or date. Enter what the appointment is first. Choose start and end times or set the event to last the entire day. Choose "Anniversary" to commemorate an important annual event, selecting the date but not the times. After creating an event, you also can set an alarm to sound prior to the appointment's start time.

Conference Calling

Start a conference call by dialing one of the parties you want to include. While on the call, choose "Options" and go to "New Call." Dial the second party and go back to "Options" to select "Merge" and join the calls. Repeat these steps for all parties you want in on the call. You can eliminate any of the parties from the conference call if you initiated the call. Go to "Options," pick "Conference" and go to "Drop Participant" at any time. Improve The Audio On A Flip Video

Improve the Audio on a Flip Video

The Flip video camera is a small, portable device roughly the size of an iPod or other MP3 player. The device can easily record audio and video, then once you are done a USB port flips out of the side and is connected to a computer to upload the video. There small microphone built into the Flip camera is not of extremely high quality, and a variety of problems from distortion to extraneous noise and weak signal are possible. A few good audio-conscious habits can help you maximize the sound quality of your Flip videos.

Instructions

1. Stay out of the wind when recording in the Flip, if possible. The Flip does not have any sound buffers so when the wind blows across the microphone your video picks up a rustling noise.

2. Avoid jerkey movements with the camera. This, like the wind, can add rustling to the audio.

3. Keep your hands and fingers off of the microphone. Due to its placement by the lens it is easy to cover it with your fingers.

4. Hold the camera tight. Because the microphone is so close to where you hand is any movement with your hand can be recorded by the microphone and show up in the video.

5. Record with the individual facing you. It is going to be hard to hear when the individual is not facing you and the camera won't pick up the audio. The microphone is not extremely sensitive so move in as closely as possible.

Use A Tracfone Sim In An Unlocked Cell

You can use a Tracfone SIM in any unlocked GSM cell phone.

TracFone is a company that sells pre-paid services. They "piggyback" off carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile because they use a GSM network. To do this, the phones TracFone sells require a SIM card just like the phones sold by AT&T and T-Mobile. Because TracFone sells pre-paid services, the phones they sell with the service are usually generic or feature-poor phones. You can easily use your Tracfone SIM with any unlocked cell phone.

Instructions

1. Remove the back cover and the battery from your TracFone. Locate the white SIM card under the battery and remove it from the device. The SIM card directly connects to your mobile number and is the key component that allows you to access the TracFone network.

2. Remove the back cover and battery from your unlocked cell phone and locate the SIM holder under the battery. The SIM holder resembles the shape of a SIM card.

3. Insert the SIM card into the SIM holder on your cell phone. One corner of the SIM card is cut off. The SIM holder also has one corner with the same type of cut. This helps you orientate your SIM card in the phone. Insert the SIM with the white side facing up and the gold side facing down.

4. Place the battery and back cover on your cell phone and power it on. When it registers, your unlocked phone is on the TracFone network.

Slider Phone Problems

Slider phones are mobile phones that have a hidden keyboard that slides out when the user wishes to type a number or message. While slider phones are compact and innovative, their gadgety features can become troublesome when they malfunction.

Unhinged

One of the problems faced by slider phone users is that the mechanism that connects the main base of the phone to the slide-out keyboard can become unhinged. An unhinged mechanism results in the slide-out keyboard's detaching completely or becoming very loose. The more the slide-out keyboard is used the more wear and tear it gets, which causes the unhinging.

Opening and Closing

If the joining mechanism of the slider phone becomes jammed, you will not be able to open or shut the slide-out keyboard. Phones that jam with the slider retracted cannot be used to dial phone numbers or send text messages. If a phone jams with the slider piece out, you will not be able to close the phone back into its compact shape.

Automatic Shut-Off

According to a November 2007 review of a slider phone in Softpedia, some slider phones have a defect that automatically shuts down the power temporarily when the slider feature is slid out or up. Users describe the issue as a screen that goes black or blank. At times a hard boot will be required to restart the phone.

Removing Pictures From An Lg Cell Phone

Removing Pictures From an LG Cell Phone

Navigate to the Media Center

LG makes many cell phone models, but the basic menu is the same on most LG phones, so removing pictures is easy. To delete photos, press the "Menu" button to display the main menu with options including "Media center," "Pictures" and "Video." Using the navigational arrows, scroll to the media center.

Select Photos to Be Deleted

Highlight the "Pictures" icon. On most LG phones, the "Pictures" icon features a small image of a digital camera and strip of film. Choose this option to open the sub-menu by pressing "OK" on the main menu button. Scroll down to "My Albums" and open this folder. Depending on the location of the photos you wish to remove, in the "My Albums" folder select either "In Phone" or "Online Albums" for web-enabled cell phones. Choosing either option will display thumbnails of your photos. Use the left, right, up and down buttons to scroll through your photos and find the images to be erased. As you scroll through the pictures, a red frame will appear around each picture as it is highlighted. To select a single picture and erase it, press the upper-right selection button and a photo activity menu will appear. To select and erase multiple photos at once, use the "Menu OK" button to place a check mark next to each photo that will be deleted.

Remove Photos

When you are finished selecting photos to be erased, press the upper-right function button to display the "Picture" menu. Scroll down to "Delete" and then choose either "Delete Select" to remove individual images or "Delete All" to remove multiple photos at once. The same process is followed when deleting video clips from phones equipped with a digital video camera. Video clips are also stored in the "My Albums" folder and can be identified by a small icon of a video camera in the corner of each thumbnail.

Activate Free Gprs

GPRS, or General Packet Radio Service, is designed specifically for GSM phones. Most GSM network providers such as A&T and T-Mobile offer GPRS services for their customers. In fact, the service has now been upgraded to EDGE, a slightly faster version of GPRS. Before you can access the Internet on your phone, your carrier must activate the service. The activation is totally free, though you will be charged according to your data plan when you start using it on your phone browser.

Instructions

1. Call the customer service department of your cell phone service provider.

2. Tell the representative you want to activate GPRS on your handset. Tell them your username or cell phone number and your phone model. The rep will then activate GPRS on your account and send you the GPRS settings for your phone via SMS (text message). Or you'll be guided in configuring the settings manually.

3. Open the SMS you receive on your phone. The settings will then update. If you have been asked to input the settings manually, go to "Menu" > "Internet Settings" > "Internet Profiles" (or similar options on a different phone). Then, select "Data Account" and enter the carrier information provided by the representative.

Once you enter these settings, GPRS will be activated for free.

What Happens If I Wrongly Enter My Blackberry Lock Code 10 Times

Protecting your BlackBerry with a password protects your information.

Protecting your BlackBerry smartphone with a password ensures that nobody but you and those who know your password can access your information. Research in Motion has designed safeguards into this system to prevent interlopers from attempting to access your personal data. This safeguard is a limit of 10 attempts at entering the password.

Password Strength

BlackBerrys have certain restrictions when it comes to available password selections. These devices won't let you set a password if it is too simple. This means you can't use a password that is made up of the same letter or number repeated such as "00000." You also can't use simple sequences like "ABCDEF" or "123456." By requiring a more complex password, you are protected against people trying to randomly guess your password by entering common and simple sequences.

Password Activation

By going into the "Security Options" section of the "Options" menu, you can set a password. You can also set a security timeout. This means that your phone will automatically lock itself and activate the password after the amount of time that you set in the menu. You can also manually put your phone into password-protection mode by clicking on the "Lock" icon on the Home screen. After your phone is locked either by timeout or manual activation, your 10 attempts begin, so make sure you know the password.

10 Attempts

You have 10 attempts to type in your password. If the password is entered incorrectly, a counter appears next to the password input field that shows you how many attempts you have used out of the 10 available. If all 10 attempts are used, your phone's security measures take over and all the information on the phone is deleted. This includes contacts, messages and application data as well as photos and videos. The phone assumes that a person who has incorrectly guessed your password 10 times should not have access to your data, so it deletes it to keep it safe.

Preventing Erasure

Protect your phone to prevent this security measure from affecting your information. Write down your password and keep it somewhere safe so that you can refer to it if you forget your password. This will prevent you from trying to guess at your own password and accidentally deleting your own data. You can also back up the information on your phone by using the BlackBerry Desktop Software (see Resources). This way, even if somebody tries to access your phone and causes everything to be erased, you will have a cop that you can restore to your phone.
