Format A Dvd Blank Disc

Format a DVD Blank Disc

Formatting is a necessary step that aims to prepare any disc, including DVDs, for data storage. DVDs use a special Universal Disc Format (UDF) to achieve comparability across different platforms. When a DVD is formatted you can simply drag files to the disk to automatically burn them. Windows Vista or later versions provide a built-in support for DVDs that offers multiple formatting options.

Instructions

1. Insert a blank DVD into the computer DVD burner.

2. Log into your Windows Vista/7 user account.

3. Click on the Windows "Start" button in the left corner of the screen.

4. Click on "Computer" display icons representing discs on your computer.

5. Double-click to the DVD disc icon get to the small window "Prepare this blank disc."

6. Click on "Show formatting options."

7. Select the radiobutton "Live File System" or "Mastered" to choose a desired formatting option.

Live File System creates a DVD that is similar to a flash drive allowing you to add files to DVD at any time (in multisession mode). The "Mastered" option creates a DVD that allows you to burn all files to DVD at once.

8. Click "Next" to start the disc format. Allow two to four minutes for the process to be completed.

Do A Dead Hang Pull Up Exercise

Dead hang pull ups are a strengthening exercise for the arms. Dead hang pull ups can be performed by both men and women. You should practice pull ups regularly in order to master this exercise. Dead hand pull ups are more easily performed by those who are at a healthy weight and are physically fit.

Instructions

1. Test the stability of the bar you are using for the dead hang pull ups. Test your weight on the bar, especially when you are using a portable bar that is secured in a door jam.

2. Place both of your hands on the bar with your palms facing forward, like you are holding onto bicycle handles. Grip the bar with or without your thumbs, depending on which position is the most comfortable.

3. Put all of your weight on your arms by lifting your feet off of the ground and bending your knees at a 90 degree angle. Keep your body as still as possible and do not swing.

4. Lift your body with the strength in your arms. Pull yourself upwards until your chin is just above the bar. Hold this position for a few seconds.

5. Lower your body, being careful not to hit your chin on the bar. Repeat the dead hang pull up once your arms have become fully extended or straighten your legs and release the burden from your arms.

6. Practice dead hang pull ups at least three times a week. Try to add one additional repetition every one to two weeks.

My Phone Won'T Receive Picture Messages

Learn your cell phone and its features.

Most cell phones that you may come across provide national calling, international calling and text messaging. Cell phones can also send and receive picture messages to anyone else with a cell phone. This feature becomes very handy when you want to send pictures to friends or family members who live on the other side of the country or the world. In order to receive picture messages, you need to familiarize yourself with your cell phone, including its features. Your cell phone provider also provides you with information about your cell phone, and whether it is compatible with picture messaging.

Instructions

1. Look through your cell phone's user guide. It will provide you information on the basic features of your cell phone, including if it has picture messaging. If your cell phone did not come with a camera phone, then it may not have that capability.

2. Ask your cell phone provider if you cannot find information in your user's guide. Ask if you can receive picture messages. The company may allow you to upgrade your cell phone (for free) to a current one with picture messaging.

3. Ask your friends or family to send you a picture message. Go to "Menu," "Messages" and "Multimedia Messages." The picture message should appear in your inbox.

Activate A Used Verizon Cell Phone

Verizon Wireless offers a variety of phones to choose from, but some people prefer to activate a used cell phone instead of purchasing a new one. Activating a used Verizon cell phone is normally less expensive than buying a new cell phone. If you want to activate a used Verizon cell phone, there are a few things that you need to do.

Instructions

1. Decide if you want to activate your used cell phone in person (at a Verizon Wireless store or authorized retailer), online or over the phone with a customer service representative (see Resources below). Select the method that best suit your needs.

2. Verify that the used phone is compatible with Verizon's network. Verizon Wireless only activates GPS-compliant devices on their network. When you contact Verizon Wireless, someone can verify the phone's make and model with you.

3. Check the status of the used cell phone by using the phone's electronic serial number (ESN). In order to activate your used Verizon cell phone, a customer service representative must verify whether or not the phone was reported lost or stolen and whether there's a previous balance on it. If the phone was reported lost or stolen, the representative has to speak with the person who reported it lost or stolen before you can proceed with the activation process.

4. Choose a plan and pay the appropriate fee(s). Depending upon your choice of plan and credit history, you may or may not have to pay an activation fee and/or deposit.

5. Complete the activation process. A customer service representative guides you through the activation process with just a few simple steps. You're able to use your phone immediately after you complete the activation process. If you are a current Verizon Wireless customer, you may be able to use the SIM card from your active phone and transfer it to the used Verizon cell phone.

Fix Electric Windows In A Car

Save money by fixing your car's electric windows.

You can fix your power window systems and save money. If you test the motor, you can determine whether you have to replace a switch or fuse or fix a more serious problem. The switch may be dirty or stuck and a simple fix will cost you nothing. If the electric motor is not getting power, you can rectify that problem by checking the fuse box and wiring.

Instructions

1. Check to see if you have to replace a fuse or repair faulty wiring. Check the switches as well; they may be stuck and need to be cleaned. In such cases, you can put a few drops of rubbing alcohol or contact lens cleaner into the switches. If the problem requires replacement of the regulator, continue with the following steps.

2. Remove the window switch panel. Be aware that some vehicles don't have a switch panel because it is built into the door panel.

3. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the window switch connector.

4. Remove the door panel mounting bolts, along with all plastic access panels and screw hole covers. To have access to the bolts, you may have to lower the window. Depending on your car's make, the door panels may have plastic push-style fasteners. After removing all door panel fasteners, disconnect all wiring, gently pull up or out on the panel and remove the regulator.

5. Replace the regulator with a new unit purchased from a parts supplier or online.

6. Tighten the bolts to secure the new regulator and make sure all wires are carefully placed back inside the door. Once everything is secured, reassemble the door panel.

7. Check the installation by pressing the power window switch. If this still doesn't solve the problem, check the troubleshooting guide in your owner's manual or bring your car to your dealer or an auto repair shop.

Update An Mmc/Sd Drive

MultiMediaCard (MMC) and Secure Digital (SD) cards are commonly used in portable electronic devices, including cell phones, digital cameras and MP3 players. Many computers have MMC/SD slots built directly into the frame of the computer; however, aftermarket readers are available. As bugs in the card reader's drivers are identified, and as operating systems are updated, the reader manufacturer releases driver updates. Windows allows you to search for and automatically install these updates, ensuring that your MMC/SD reader is always up-to-date.

Instructions

1. Open the "Start" menu (the Windows-logo button in the lower-left-hand corner of the screen) and click "Control Panel."

2. Click "System and Maintenance" from within the Control Panel window and then click "Device Manager," located in the top-right of the "System and Maintenance" window.

3. Click the arrow to the left of "Storage Controllers." Right-click on your MMC/SD drive from within the list.

4. Click "Update Driver Software" to automatically search for the latest available drivers for the reader. If an update is found, it will be automatically installed.

Open The Sim Tray On My Iphone

The GSM version of the iPhone is available in the United States from AT&T Wireless and, unlike Verizon Wireless's CDMA version, contains a SIM card slot. This allows you to swap in a new SIM card should your original SIM card become damaged, or remove your SIM card if you want to give or sell your iPhone to someone else.

Instructions

1. Insert your paper clip or pin into the hole next to the SIM card slot. On the original iPhone -- iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS -- this slot is located at the top of the phone. On the iPhone 4, the SIM card slot is located on the right side.

2. Push the paper clip or pin down until you see the SIM card tray eject from the iPhone.

3. Pull the SIM card tray out. This tray differs in size based on the type of iPhone you have. The earlier iPhone models use full-sized SIM cards, so the tray is bigger; the iPhone 4 uses the micro-SIM format, so the SIM card tray is smaller.

4. Push the SIM card tray back into the phone when finished. You will hear a "click" when the tray is correctly installed back into the device.

Remove Windows Pc Defender Virus

Windows PC Defender is a virus that can be tough to get rid of.

Windows PC Defender pretends to scan the computer for infections, displays a fake results log, then demands you to purchase the full program to fix the "detected" viruses. Use An Ac Cell Phone Charger To Charge Your Mp3 Player

Some car chargers can be used to charge MP3 players.

Most MP3 players have brand-specific chargers that only fit into that type of MP3 player. Some have mini-USB ports just like many cell phone chargers. However, just because the cell phone charger fits with the MP3 player doesn't mean it can be used to charge the device.

Amps

Each charger has a maximum amount of power it can supply; that number is referred to as the amps. Each MP3 player requires a certain amount of amps in order to charge. If the MP3 needs more than the charger can handle, it will not charge.

Volts

The volts are the max amount of energy the charger gives, and each mp3 player requires a certain amount of volts to fully charge. Compare the charger with the mp3 player to see if the volts match. If not, the charger might not charge at all or might burn out completely.

Universal Chargers

Companies like iGo have developed universal chargers. These chargers regulate how much power and energy each individual device needs in order to charge and sends only that amount. Tips can be purchased for many different styles of cell phones and MP3 players.

Use Iphone Wifi

Apple's iPhone is a multimedia connectivity tool. As such, the iPhone employs a sophisticated system to keep you connected to the web via WiFi signals so that you can stay up to date with email, mapping and media. To use the iPhone's WiFi feature just follow these steps.

Instructions

1. Tap a network. If you have not yet used your iPhone's WiFi or if you're in a new WiFi area, the iPhone will show you a list of available networks. Tap the network that you want to connect to in order to connect. If there is a password required a little lock icon appears. Enter the password to connect to locked networks and continue to surf the web.

2. Monitor your signal. As you use your iPhone, especially if you're moving around, you should take a look at the signal strength of the connection. The strength is indicated by a small, black broadcast symbol that stacks arches, or rounded bars, on top of one another. The more bars there are the better the signal.

3. Make connecting to WiFi automatic or manual. The iPhone is equipped to automatically search for available networks and connect you to one. If you do not want the phone to search for networks, select the "WiFi" option on the phone's menu. Then select either the on or off option of the "Ask To Join Networks." Turning this option off requires that you find networks manually.

4. Forget a network. Once you connect to a WiFi network once the iPhone automatically remembers the network and connects you to it at a later opportunity. To forget a network so you don't get automatically connected choose the "WiFi" option on the menu. Then tap the right arrow button next to one of the networks that the iPhone already remembers. Then tap "Forget This Network" to erase the phone's memory of the network.

Use An Unlocked Triband Sim Card Cell Phone Watch

An unlocked tri-band cell phone watch is no different in its general use than an unlocked tri-band cell phone. By determining that the watch's frequencies will work with your carrier of choice, and then obtaining that network's required SIM card, you will be able to use all the features found on your cell phone watch.

Instructions

1. Determine what three cell phone frequencies your watch uses. Available worldwide GSM frequencies include 850mhz, 900mhz, 1800mhz and 1900mhz. You can find this information in your phone's manual, through the manufacturer's website or through popular phone specification services such as GSMArena and Phonescoop.

2. Find out if your carrier of choice supports any of the frequencies of the watch. Quick tip: AT&T Wireless supports the 850Mhz frequency and T-Mobile supports the 1900Mhz frequency. You can also call the GSM carrier in your area and ask them if they support any of the watch's frequencies.

3. Call your carrier or visit a local retail location and sign up for an account if you don't already have an active account. If you don't have an account, you will be given a new SIM card. If you do have an account, you will be able to remove the SIM card from your phone and use it with the watch phone. For new customers, explain that you already have a phone with the proper frequency capabilities to work on the company's network.

4. Locate the watch's SIM card slot. Typically, this will be found on the side of the watch or under the watch in a removable area. Refer to the watch phone's manual or the manufacturer's website to find the SIM card location.

5. Insert your SIM card and power on the device. Attempt to make a call and then arrange to receive a call. If calls can be made and received, the phone is ready for service.

Unlock Nokia 1200b

Unlocking your Nokia 1200B mobile phone allows you to connect it to any network you please. To do this, you need to get an unlock code. This can be done by asking your phone's carrier for a code, though they may decline to provide you with one. You also can purchase a code from a third-party website. For both methods, you need to know the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) of your phone.

Instructions

Unlock With Phone's Provider

1. Turn the phone on and dial *#06# on the keypad. This causes the 1200B's IMEI number to appear on screen, and you will need to write it down.

2. Contact your phone's provider and ask for an unlock code. Have your 1200B's IMEI number with you, as you need to provide it before you are given an unlock code. Your phone's provider may opt to refuse to give you a code, though, even if you provide your IMEI.

3. Turn the phone on and, when the unlock code prompt appears, enter in the unlock code provided to you by your phone's provider.

Purchase From Website

4. Turn the phone on and dial *#06# on the keypad. This causes the 1200B's IMEI number to appear on screen, and you will need to write it down.

5. Navigate to a website where you can buy an unlock code. The sites listed in Resources all sell unlock codes. You need to have your IMEI number on hand, as websites that sell codes require you to provide them with it before you can buy a code.

6. Turn on the phone and use the unlock code you bought to unlock your 1200B when prompted.

Open A Samsung M140 Phone

A Phillips screwdriver and knife are all you need to open a Samsung M140.

The Samsung M140 mobile phone makes calls over a second generation (2G) network, and it offers many other features for the tech-savvy consumer. A 640x480 pixel camera, 2 MB of internal memory, USB compatibility and built-in FM radio give the user a number of features to explore. However, this phone was first released in 2009, and as with any older piece of technology, it's bound to experience glitches over time. If you ever need to open the Samsung M140 to tinker with the interior, you must follow some specific steps.

Instructions

1. Turn off your phone. Never open an electronic device that is powered on, because you risk electric shock or damaging the item.

2. Flip the phone upside down.

3. Press down on the plastic casing on the back of the Samsung M140 phone with your thumb.

4. Slide the plastic piece downward, toward the bottom of the phone, while still applying pressure with your thumb. With just a little pressure, the plastic piece unlatches and slides right off the bottom of the phone, revealing the battery compartment and SIM card. If you just needed to open the battery compartment, you are ready to work on the phone. To open the phone's entire outer casing, proceed with the next steps.

5. Pull out the battery. The battery rests in a small compartment, and you should be able to pick it right out of the compartment with your fingers. The SIM card can remain intact as you disassemble the rest of the phone.

6. Remove the two Phillips-head screws at the topmost corners of the phone. A small, jeweler's screwdriver works best.

7. Slide a butter knife into the open battery casing. You should notice a small metal latch in the empty battery compartment. Press the metal latch with the butter knife, and pull on the Samsung M140 phone's faceplate.

8. Open the phone by pulling off the front and back covers. With the faceplate loose and the main screws removed, the front and back covers will separate from each other, giving you access to the Samsung M140's insides.

Bar Phone Numbers

The National Do Not Call Registry blocks calls from telemarketers.

Direct marketers routinely make unsolicited calls. You can escape such phone calls by entering your telephone number in the National Do Not Call Registry, which is managed by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). This will stop calls from all telemarketers except charities, political organizations, pollsters and companies you have a relationship with.

Instructions

Register via Phone

1. Dial 888-382-1222 from any phone you wish to have added to the Do Not Call List.

2. Enter the number of the phone you are calling from when prompted. This is so that the FTC can verify that you are not trying to block somebody else's phone.

3. If the phone number you entered receives telemarketer phone calls after 31 days, file a complaint by calling this number.

Register Online

4. Go to the registration page at donotcall.gov.

5. Fill in the area code and phone number. Several phone numbers can be registered at the same time.

6. Fill in the email address, and fill it in again to confirm it. The phone number is now registered. You will receive confirmation in the mail from the National Do Not Call Register.

7. File a complaint online if you receive telemarketer phone calls after 31 days.

How Does Verizon'S Push To Talk Work

How Does Verizon's Push to Talk Work?

The Verizon Wireless Push to Talk (PTT) service gives cell phone users two-way radio communication with the same device that makes voice calls. You can use Push to Talk throughout the United States on Verizon's network.

Function

Push to Talk calls are activated with the touch of a single button and use the same phone number as voice calls.

Features

You can make simple one-to-one calls or have as many as 50 participants in a group call. Contacts can be managed through the handset or online.

Incoming Calls

Regular voice calls will not be interrupted when a Push to Talk call tries to come through. An alert notifies you of the incoming Push to Talk call, and that caller is told you are unavailable. Voice calls will be sent to voice mail if you are engaged in a Push to Talk call.

Charges

As of March 2010, Push to Talk can be added to an eligible calling plan with an additional monthly fee of $5 per line for unlimited PTT calls.

Benefits

Push to Talk is useful for businesses because it allows supervisors to better manage and communicate with colleagues and employees.

Send Text To Voice Over The Phone With Software

Text-to-voice software allows an individual to write a text message, which is then converted into a spoken message. In some situations, this is a convenient option, such as any time it is not appropriate to talk into a phone. There also is software available for typing messages on a computer as a text, which is converted to a voice message over the phone.

Instructions

1. Install a text-to-voice software on the computer. Software can be purchased at a store or through online downloading sources. The price will vary based on the software, though there are free versions available, such as Natural Reader 10 or Verbose.

2. Start the software and open the message system. Sending a text message to a phone from a computer source requires a messaging system that is compatible with the text-to-voice software and text messages. Most instant messenger systems have a text message option available where the user name is the phone number

3. Enter the text. Select the "Text to Speech" option or "Text to Voice" and listen to the text. Hit "Enter" or "Send" to send the text to the phone.

Delete A Virus Without An Antivirus Program

If a virus has made your computer unstable or is preventing you from connecting to the Internet, it may not be possible to download and install antivirus software to delete the malicious program. Deleting malware without antivirus software is often very difficult because programmers use a variety of methods to make malicious applications hard to find and remove. However, some general tips are available that you can use to manually remove certain types of viruses and get your computer back to a usable state so you can install an antivirus program.

Instructions

1. Press the "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Delete" keys simultaneously and then click "Start Task Manager." The Task Manager application opens. Click the "Processes" tab at the top of the window to display all the processes currently running on your computer. If you see an unfamiliar process, look it up on a search engine, if you are able to connect to the Internet. Repeat for each process until you identify the malicious program. Click the program and then click the "End Process" button to terminate it.

2. Open the "Start" menu and type "msconfig" in the search box. Press "Enter" to launch the "System Configuration" utility. Click the "Startup" tab at the top of the window. This tab displays the applications that run automatically when the computer starts. Try to locate the process that you terminated in Step 1. If you locate the process, remove the check mark from the box next to it, and note the path and file name shown in the "Command" column. Click "OK" to close the utility. Do not restart the computer. If you could not find the process, close the utility and continue.

3. Open the "Start" menu again and type "regedit" in the search field. Press "Enter" to display the Registry Editor. Use the folders on the left side of the screen to navigate to the following four areas in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/RunOnce

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/RunOnce

These registry areas display the programs that run automatically when the computer boots up. If you were unable to find the malicious process in the System Configuration utility, you should be able to find it in one of these areas. Make a note of the path and file name shown in the "Data" column, then right-click the registry and select "Delete" to remove it.

4. Open the "Start" menu and click "Computer." Navigate to the path on your hard drive that you noted in Step 2 or Step 3 using the Windows Explorer window. Right-click the malicious file, then click "Delete" to remove it from your computer.

5. Restart the computer.

Open A Keyless Remote

When a key fob battery dies, it can cause more problems than just not unlocking the doors from a distance.

A keyless entry remote, known as a key fob, is powered by a thin, watch-style, battery. When this battery fails, there is only one way to replace it. You must open the key fob and remove the battery from the circuit board. You will begin to notice that the distance you can unlock the doors gets shorter; this is when the battery should be replaced. If this is ignored, one day the remote will not work at all. On some vehicles, when this remote stops working, you cannot disable the alarm.

Instructions

1. Lay the key fob on a flat surface, buttons-down.

2. Examine the rear of the key fob and locate the screw(s) on the rear. There may be one to four screws, depending on the style. Note: Some fobs do not have screws. If so, skip to Step 4.

3. Loosen the screw(s) using a screwdriver.

4. Place a flat-head screwdriver so the head is between the two halves of the fob.

5. Lightly turn the screwdriver to separate the two halves.

6. Pull the two fob halves away from each other, by hand. This exposes the key fob internals.

Instructions

2. Insert the tip of your screwdriver in the seam between the back cover and the watch. Then remove the cover by simply lifting it off with the screwdriver. This is a small metal plate located next to the battery.

3. Touch the tip of your screwdriver to the AC pad and hold it for a couple of seconds. This is only to be done if you fully intend to reset the battery and the system. The AC pad should never be touched otherwise.

Get Free Minutes For Boost Mobile Phones

Boost Mobile is a prepaid cellular phone service. Prepaid cell phone services generally require the user to buy refill cards that add a set number of minutes to the account. These minutes get depleted as the cell phone is used (see Reference 1).

You have to pay in set increments for a certain amount of minutes. For example, you might pay $20 for X amount of minutes and the ability to use text messaging. Sometimes bonus minutes are offered as well as the chance to get free minutes.

Instructions

1. Call Boost Mobile customer service at 1-888-BOOST-4U to speak to a customer service representative.

2. Tell the representative that you found a cheaper phone plan or that you are no longer happy with your Boost Mobile account. Sometimes the representative will offer to add minutes to your account for free. They may also offer to upgrade you at a discount to a Boost Mobile Unlimited plan where minute usage is not limited. These options may be offered in an attempt to keep you from leaving the service.

3. Look for special Boost Mobile offers for frequent "re-boosting" (the term for adding minutes to a Boost account). For example, Boost may from time to time offer specials where if you purchase X amount of re-boosts in a certain timeframe you will get X amount of bonus minutes.

4. Ask family and friends for Boost Mobile re-boost cards for holidays or birthdays. Existing Boost users can "gift" minutes directly to another Boost user's account through Boost's official website. The website is available in the Reference section of this article.

Transfer Data From Motorola To Nokia

After buying a new cell phone, you will probably need to transfer information from your old phone to your new one. This means getting all of the information from your old Motorola phone to be put transferred into your new Nokia phone is as simple as ever.

Instructions

1. Turn your Motorola phone on and plug the micro-usb data cable into its usb jack. Plug the other end of the usb into your PC, and wait for the drivers to be installed so that you can use your phone as a tiny hard drive. If you have already done this in the past, you will not need to do it again.

2. Open your phone's drive when it is recognized by your PC after the drivers have been installed. Highlight all of the information you would like to transfer to the Nokia phone by holding down the left mouse button and dragging the cursor over the files you want. Upgrade The Memory Card On A Nokia E71

Flash memory technology is advancing rapidly, and the memory cards available today are likely much larger than the one that you purchased when you originally obtained your Nokia E71 mobile phone. If you find that your Nokia E71 has insufficient free space to store all the music, pictures and other media that you would like it to, remove the original memory card and install a new one to expand your phone's storage capacity.

Instructions

1. Push the power button at the top of the Nokia E71. Highlight and select "Remove Memory Card" using the control pad on the front of the device.

2. Place your fingernail in the seam between the memory card cover and the body of the Nokia E71, and pull gently to open the cover. The cover is in the top-left corner of the device.

3. Push the outside edge of the original memory card until it clicks. Lift your finger away, and the memory card extends from the slot. Take the memory card out of the phone and place it in the packaging for your new memory card to avoid losing it.

4. Slide the new memory card into the empty slot so the metal contacts on the bottom of the card face the metal pins inside the memory card slot. Push the card gently until it clicks.

5. Swing the memory card cover closed, and push it until it is flush with the edge of the phone.

Tell If It Is Humid Without A Hygrometer

Use a pair of ordinary thermometers to test humidity levels.

Humidity measures the amount of moisture present in the air. Usually, you can measure this with a hygrometer, a simple meter that tells you what percentage of water vapor the air contains. However, if you don't have a hygrometer or you want to figure out the humidity without one, there are other ways. The simplest way is to use wet- and dry-bulb temperatures. Wet and dry bulb refers to different kinds of thermometers; dry-bulb thermometers are common thermometers while wet-bulb thermometers have a moistened piece of cotton or cloth wrapped around the bottom. A wet-bulb thermometer is easy to make and use.

Instructions

1. Shake both thermometers to make sure the mercury is as far down toward the bulbs as possible. Soak a cotton ball in room-temperature water and tape it around the bulb of a regular mercury thermometer. Set this thermometer and a second mercury thermometer with no cotton ball in the same place in a room or outdoors.

2. Wait several hours, if not overnight. Check the temperatures of both thermometers and write the temperatures down.

3. Subtract the wet-bulb temperature from the dry-bulb temperature to get the humidity percentage. For instance, if your dry bulb reads 75 degrees and your wet bulb reads 40, humidity is at approximately 35 percent. The dry bulb thermometer records how hot or cold it actually is in the room. As water evaporates from the wet bulb, the cotton ball's temperature drops. The more water evaporated from the wet bulb, the cooler it will read. The dryer the air, the more water will evaporate from the cotton.

4. Try the experiment again in different rooms with humid and dry air.

Unlock An Old At&T Sim Card

You may have to reset the PIN code on your device.

An AT&T phone can be activated by simply inserting your old AT&T SIM card into the device. If the SIM card security feature is in use, however, you won't be able to use the device without unlocking the SIM. A locked SIM card will request you to enter a code, usually referred to as a SIM PIN. The PIN is four to eight digits in length. If you are unsure of the PIN, you can attempt to unlock it using the default code set by AT&T.

Instructions

1. Insert the old SIM card into the phone you intend to use it with. (Most phones house the SIM card under the battery; refer to your user guide for details.)

2. Press the phone's "Power" button to turn it on. When the device starts up, "Enter PIN" or "Enter SIM PIN" will display if your SIM card is locked.

3. Enter in the four to eight digit SIM PIN. If you are unsure of the PIN, try using AT&T's default PIN of "1111."

4. Press "OK." If you entered the correct PIN, an "Unlocked" message will display. If you receive an incorrect code error, continue to the next step.

5. Enter in the default PIN --- or attempt to guess the PIN --- until a "PIN Blocked" message displays. (After three wrong SIM PIN entries, you will see this message.)

6. Contact AT&T customer support by calling 1-800-331-0500, and request the PUK (PIN Unblocking Key) for your device. (If you have a myWireless Account registered online, see the link in the Resources section for step by step instructions for obtaining your PUK through AT&T's website.)

7. Enter the eight digit PUK using your phone's keypad and press "OK."

8. Type in a new PIN code of your choice; pick a number you will remember. The PIN should be four to eight digits in length.

9. Re-enter your new PIN code to confirm. Press "OK." If all codes were entered correctly, your SIM card will now be unlocked and ready for use.

What Topologies Are Used In Computer Networking

The layout of a network is typically called its "topology," a term that refers both to the physical arrangement of the components and how those components communicate with each other. Network topologies have evolved over the past half century from simple coaxial cable with data transfer speeds of one to three megabytes per second to complex switched fiber optic networks that move up to ten gigabytes per second. There are several different network topologies available, and choosing the right one for your network is critical.

Physical vs. Logical Topologies

Network topologies have two facets: logical and physical. "Physical" refers to the way the components are actually connected, including the media that is used and the placement of devices on the media. "Logical" refers to the way the devices on the network communicate or how the signal moves over the network. Understanding the difference is important as you plan your network.

Bus Topology

The physical bus topology is simple in that it consists of a wire, typically coaxial cable, running from one machine to another. A terminator is placed at each end of the cable to prevent "signal bounce," which can cause the network to become jammed with echoing data transmissions. A physical bus topology is, with rare exception, implemented as a logical bus topology. Each computer sends data out on the wire and each other computer receives the signal. The computer that is the destination processes the data and the others simply discard the data. Of course, if multiple computers transmit data at the same time, collisions occur on the wire and a process begins of waiting and retransmitting.

Ring Topology

The physical ring topology consists of a network very similar to the bus topology, with the one difference being that there are no ends of the cable to terminate because each computer is connected to a literal ring of cable. Although physical rings are rarely used with the exception of data center network backbones, logical rings are the more prevalent implementation of a ring topology. In a logical ring the signal still moves around in a "circle" from one machine to the next, but the physical network is more likely to be implemented as a "star," using a hub as the wiring connector. All of the computers plug into the hub and the signal travels from one computer through the hub to the next computer in line.

Star Topology

The term "star" refers to an actual physical topology over which both logical bus and logical ring topologies can operate. All computers or devices on the network are cabled directly into a hub or switch so that in a diagram the layout looks like a star, with a central point and rays (of cable) extending outward. This design typically requires more cable, but is much easier to troubleshoot in the event of problems.

Switched Topology

A switched topology is neither a logical ring nor a logical bus and is always implemented as a physical star. The switch device creates circuits between devices "on the fly," giving each connection the full bandwidth of the network. This topology also allows multiple "conversations" to be in progress at a given point in time between pairs of devices. The switched topology is used in almost every new local area network design. The difference between a switch and a hub is that switches are "smart" and direct the signal only to the destination device, while hubs are "dumb," sending the signal to all devices that are connected to it.

Wireless Topologies

Wireless topologies do not require cabling, so no physical topology is visible. There are two different modes for wireless networks: infrastructure mode and ad hoc mode. Infrastructure mode refers to the use of a wireless access point that is wired into the physical network, either into a switch or hub. Ad hoc mode refers to a peer-to-peer arrangement where two or more computers are network with each other without need for an access point. Ad hoc networks resemble a physical and logical bus network, while infrastructure wireless network resemble a physical star and a logical bus network.

Increase The Battery Life In A Nokia 6555

Because the Nokia 6555 uses a lithium ion battery, it is thankfully free of many of the memory issues other battery types often develop. Even so, consumers sometimes experience frustration with their power draining too quickly and understandably assume the worst. Before you call your carrier to request a new battery, altering some settings and usage behavior with the Nokia 6555 could extend your battery life without the need for replacement.

Instructions

1. Deactivate audible tones for key presses. Hearing a beep every time you press a button drains your battery needlessly. To do this, press "Menu," "Settings" and then "Tones." From here, select "Keypad Tones" and choose "Off." Then press "Options," and then "Save."

2. Turn Bluetooth off when not in use. Because maintaining a wireless connection with a Bluetooth headset uses a lot of power, turning this feature off will save that energy for other uses. If you are someone who uses your phone for business during the day, turning Bluetooth off when you get home could greatly extend your battery life.

3. Unplug your phone when it is done charging. While lithium ion batteries are safe from "overcharging," the additional heat generated from being plugged into a power source could damage your battery. Letting your battery charge overnight every night slowly diminishes its life cycle and impacts its efficiency.

4. Plan ahead. If you know that you're going to be away from a power source for an extended period of time, minimize your usage of the Web, avoid playing games and do not take any pictures. Refraining from these activities will extend your daily battery life by conserving energy for standby and voice use.

Setup My Tracfone Voicemail

Just like most other cell phone companies, TracFone provides a voicemail service for many of their prepaid phones.

TracFone is a company that sells prepaid cell phones. The main difference between these phones and most other cell phones, is that there is no contract or obligation with TracFone phones. You simply purchase however many minutes you want and when you use them up you buy more--or you can choose to never use the phone again. For this reason, TracFone phones are sometimes referred to as "disposable phones." Nevertheless, they have many of the same functions as regular cell phones, including voicemail.

Instructions

1. Hold down the "1" button on your phone's keypad to call your voicemail mailbox.

2. Select a language, by choosing the appropriate number, when prompted by the automated voicemail tutorial. Press the "#" key to confirm your choice.

3. Enter a unique four-digit password, followed by the "#" key when prompted. It needs to be something you can remember, because you'll have to enter this four-digit password every time you change your voicemail settings.

4. Choose the type of greeting you want when prompted. Pressing "1" will simply notify callers of your phone number when they leave a voicemail. Pressing "2" will give callers your name when they leave a voicemail. Pressing "3" will allow you to make a personalized greeting for callers.

5. Say your first and last name into the phone, followed by the "#" key, when prompted.

6. Press the "2" key. Speak your greeting into the phone, then press the "#" key when you're finished. Press "#" once more when you're finished to confirm that you're finished setting up your voicemail. Press the "Power/End" key to navigate back to your home menu. Your voicemail is now set to greet callers.

Set Your Voicemail Messages On Your Nokia Tracfone

Set Your Voicemail Messages on Your Nokia Tracfone

Voicemail is a useful feature that is available on most cellphones, including Nokia's Tracfone. It allows callers the opportunity to leave a detailed message that can be reviewed later by the cellphone owner. If your cell phone is off at the time of the call, all calls to your number will go straight to voicemail so that you don't miss important messages. If your cellphone does not have voicemail service active, you can call your provider and ask that the service be added to your account.

Instructions

1. Turn on your Tracfone. Press and hold the "1" key. When your phone dials into the voicemail system, release the key. Your phone should say "Dialing Voicemail" when it is correctly calling into the system.

2. Follow the instructions to set up your basic voicemail options. You will set up your password, initial greeting, ring options and notification options.

3. Press "4" to change the greeting that callers will hear when they call your phone number. Most Tracfone users will be provided the option to record their own greeting or to use a standard default greeting provided by the company. Prompt the caller to leave their name, phone number and a brief message in your greeting.

Use A Sim Card Between Different Cell Carriers

It is possible to use a SIM card on different wireless phones.

A SIM card is a small data card inserted into GSM-based cell phones (AT&T and T-Mobile use this service). The SIM card houses the individual's contact information and allows you to use the contact data on different cell phones. This not only allows you to easily move between cell phones, but other GSM providers as well. Doing so gives you access to a wireless network almost wherever you travel.

Instructions

1. Power down the current cell phone.

2. Remove the battery cover and the battery, then slide out the SIM card. This is the typical location for a SIM card, although it may vary, depending on your wireless device. If you are not sure, consult your phone's user manual.

3. Turn off the second cell phone, then open the battery compartment and remove the current SIM card.

4. Slide your SIM card into the phone and power the device on. Momentarily the phone detects the cell phone information and displays your current phone number. All phone calls and text messages made are deducted from your current cell phone monthly statement.

What Happens To Phones When They Are Flashed

Many things can happen when you flash your phone.

There are two different methods for flashing a cell phone, which are full flash and partial flash. What will happen to your phone will vary depending on whether you undertake a full or partial flash. Before flashing your phone, be sure to back up any important information as it may be lost in the process.

Why Flash a Phone

There are a variety of reasons that individuals may decide to flash a phone in order to alter that phone's settings. The most common reason is so that a locked phone from one cellular network can be used on a different cellular network. However, you may also flash a phone in order to change the operating system of that phone.

What Happens When a Phone is Flashed

When a phone is flashed its software settings are altered in order to change the operation of the phone. Exactly what will happen to your phone will depend on the type of phone you have and the software you are using in order to flash your phone. Remember that it is not always lawful or in accordance with your cell phone policy to flash your phone, so be sure to proceed accordingly.

Locked Phones

The most common reason that phones are flashed is that they are locked to a particular cellular network. Wireless carriers want you to purchase a new phone if you migrate to a new network, therefore phones are generally locked to a particular network. Some carriers will unlock your phone upon request but in other instances you may need to flash your phone in order to use it on a different network, this is known as a partial flash.

Full Flash

A full flash refers to actually changing the operating system on your phone. If you undertake this type of flash all of the information on your phone may be removed. A full flash could mean just upgrading or downgrading to a different version of the operating system on your phone, or changing to an entirely new mobile operating system. Flashing your phone may void your phone's warranty and it may render your phone useless depending on the security measures in place on your phone.

What Are Some Sound File Extensions

The file extension is the (usually) three-letter abbreviation at the end of the file name.

Computers have led to a lot of changes in the music industry, creating new ways for music to be produced, distributed, stored and played. As digital music files come from a variety of sources, those sources can either use one of the popular file formats or create their own specific format for the music files, to align them with that company's software and/or device for playing them.

Common

MP3 (.mp3) is the most commonly used and widely supported audio file format, to the point where the term has become shorthand for audio files in general. It is a lossy file format, which means a good amount of (mostly inaudible) data is lost in the compression process. WAV (.wav), a similar format, is short for Waveform Audio File, and is more often seen on PCs than Macs. Similar commonly used formats and extensions include AAC (.aac, or Advanced Audio Coding) and CDA (.cda, or Compact Disc Audio) which is the format used by commercially produced CDs, and only contains the data for the tracks of the CDs, not the audio itself.

Apple

Apple has developed a number of different audio file formats and extensions, mainly in connection with their iTunes multimedia player/manager software and iPod portable media players. Among those are Apple Lossless (.m4a), which, as its name implies, uses lossless compression, as does AIFF (.aif or .aiff), which delivers CD-quality audio. M4P (.m4p) is used for audio files purchased from the iTunes Music Store, containing copyright protection to hamper file sharing. Apple also has a separate format for iPhone ringtones purchased from iTunes, known as M4R (.m4r).

Other Proprietary

Other companies have also introduced formats to accompany their various programs, some of which are commonly used in other programs as well. One such popular one is WMA (.wma) for Windows Media audio files and its Zune portable player. Though relatively common, WMA files cannot be played in an iPod. Sony developed a handful of formats to go with its SonicStage software and Connect Music Store, most notably ATRAC--Adaptive Transform Acoustic Coding--variations of which can have the extension .atrac, .aa3, .at3 or .oma. A similar format is RAM (.ram or .ra), which is used with the RealPlayer audio program.

Minor Formats

Other audio formats are more rare, as they are designed for specific devices and applications. Among these are AAX (.aax), developed by Audible for audiobooks, ACM (.acm), used with Interplay video games, AUP (.aup) for the Audacity audio editing and recording program, and DSS (.dss) for use with digital voice recorders. Different cell phone manufacturers also have specific formats for their voice recordings and ringtone files, including Sony Ericsson (.amr and .copy) and Nokia (.nrt and .rng).

Does The Garmin Mobile Xt Need To Connect To The Internet

The Garmin Mobile application requires a data plan.

The Garmin Mobile XT (a version of the Garmin Mobile Blackberry and smartphone application) utilizes a data connection to triangulate location, pull traffic data, and locate points of interest. In order to effectively use the application, you must sign up for a data plan with the cell service provider or face large costs from Garmin Mobile's constant data pings.

Compatible Phones

Garmin Mobile is compatible only with a selection of smartphones and Blackberry phones. The Blackberry version is not carrier-specific; all other devices are linked to one of two carriers.

Data Usage

The application requires data for the following features: Google Local Search, navigation and Garmin Online. Garmin online provides weather, traffic, flight, and fuel data.

Comparable Products

Most cellular navigation services require a data plan in conjunction with a smartphone or Blackberry. Some cellular carriers offer---for a higher monthly fee---a proprietary navigation service that does not require a data plan.
