Retrieve A Voice Mail From A Cell Phone Memory Chip

SIM cards allow you to transfer information from one GSM phone to another.

GSM cell phones, which use the Global System for Mobile Communication standard, are characterized by their use of small chips (or SIM cards) to store data and information. GSM cell phones also use their SIM cards to exchange information with the networks themselves, including credentials to log in to a given carrier's voice mail server. If your cell phone becomes damaged in some way, you can retrieve lost voice mail messages easier than you might think.

Instructions

1. Remove the SIM card from your original phone. If your phone has a removable battery, the SIM card will be located in the body of the phone just underneath it. If you use the iPhone, you'll need to remove the SIM card from the top of the phone by inserting a sharp object into the hole next to it.

2. Insert the SIM card into another GSM device, keeping in mind that this device must be intended for use on the same network as your original phone (or, better, "unlocked" to work on any network). For example, if you remove your SIM card from a Blackberry you used with AT&T service but try to insert it into a T-Mobile Wing, it likely won't work. Power on the auxiliary mobile device and wait for it to pick up a signal from the network.

3. Retrieve your voice mail as normal by pressing a preset "voice mail" button or dialing your own phone number. You'll be able to access any voice mail messages that were available on your previous cell phone thanks to the SIM card, which will automatically provide your credentials to your network's voice mail server.

IP traffic monitoring helps you analyze and troubleshoot your TCP/IP network.

The Internet Protocol (IP) is the main way computers communicate over the Internet. It is how data gets transferred from one source to another. An Internet connection is usually comprised of both the IP and Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), and the network is commonly referred to as TCP/IP. IP traffic monitoring involves monitoring how well data packets are moving across your network. You can use programs to capture and analyze data packets.

Blackberry Curve Bluetooth Problems

Blackberry Curve Bluetooth Problems

Having a Bluetooth device for your BlackBerry Curve is a great way to take your calls hands-free. When you set up your connection or have been using it for a while, you may run into some common issues with your BlackBerry Curve and your Bluetooth headset. However, there are a few simple steps you can take to solve common Bluetooth problems with your BlackBerry Curve.

Missed Connection

When you are trying to connect your phone to your Bluetooth device, you may not be able to establish a connection, and the phone will display a message like "Unable to Connect to Bluetooth Device." Many times, this is because of a missed connection. Because syncing the Bluetooth with the BlackBerry must be done with both devices entering synchronization mode simultaneously, if your timing is off, the connection won't work properly. To remedy simple connectivity issues, try to power off the phone and place the BlackBerry Curve and Bluetooth closer together.

Power

Another problem you may encounter when trying to use your Bluetooth device with your BlackBerry Curve is with the power. If both your headset and your BlackBerry are not fully charged, then they will not be able to sync up. It is important to let both devices charge fully before trying to sync.

Incompatibility

Certain Bluetooth headset models made by 3rd parties may be incompatible with the BlackBerry Curve, so it is important to buy Bluetooth headsets from your carrier to ensure compatibility. If you find that the Bluetooth headset you are using is wholly incompatible with your BlackBerry Curve, try returning it with your original receipt to the manufacturer's store for a refund.

Freezing

One big problem with the BlackBerry line of telephones as a whole is that sometimes they freeze, often for no reason. If you experience this while using a Bluetooth headset, power off the phone and then turn it back on. If this doesn't work, perform a hard reset by releasing the battery lock button on the back of your phone and pulling out the battery, and then waiting about 1 minute to replace it. Your phone will take about 5 minutes or so to reboot, but once it has, you should be able to use your phone without incident.

Reset Settings

If you have recently reset your BlackBerry Curve, your settings may have been set back to default, including your Bluetooth settings. If this happens, just re-sync your Bluetooth headset with your BlackBerry Curve to ensure functionality.

Change A Car'S Battery

Change a Car's Battery

Changing a car battery is something that most people will be able to do themselves. The hardest part is usually to lift it out of the car once it has been disconnected because it is so heavy, but not even that is hard. Most batteries come equipped with a 60-month warranty. Keep track of your battery's life and replace it before it leaves you stranded.

Instructions

1. With the engine off, pop the hood and find the battery. Detach the negative (black) battery cable from the battery. First loosen the nut with a combination wrench. A better tool to use would be battery pliers or a battery wrench.

2. Twist and pull up on the end of the cable with your hand. If it does not come off easily you may want to purchase a battery terminal puller from your local auto parts store. This will help prevent damage to your battery or cables. It is not recommended to use a screwdriver as a pry-bar, this could break off your battery terminal or cause other damage.

3. Detach the positive (red) battery cable from the battery using the same method.

4. Using a combination wrench or a socket and ratchet, remove the battery hold-down clamp.

5. Take the battery out of the battery tray. Batteries are heavy, so grab from the bottom using both hands. If the battery has a handle, use that instead.

6. Use baking soda mixed with water and a wire brush to clean any corrosion from the battery tray and the hold-down clamp.

7. Clean the battery cable connectors with a wire brush. To remove heavy corrosion from the connectors, use battery-cleaning solution (available at any auto-parts store).

8. Place the new battery in the battery hold-down tray and secure the battery with the hold-down clamp. Spray both terminal ends with anti-corrosion solution (optional). Attach and tighten the positive battery cable. Attach and tighten the negative battery cable. Check that all cable connectors are tight. If you can move them at all, your car may not start.

Other products that offer these services are "WalkingHotSpot" (See Reference 3) and "HTC WiFi Router." (See Reference 4.) All of these products require visiting the site with your phone and performing the download with your phone. They make your phone a walking "Hot Spot." (See Tips.)

2. Search "Turn Treo Pro Into Hotspot" on the site.

3. Click "Download" located on the top right of the page. You will be taken to a new page.

4. Click "Download (7.40 MB)" located in the top right of the page. A new page will open up.

You can disable Bluetooth pairing between your cell phone and one of the audio devices you connected it to. You sometimes want to do this when you have discarded an old earphone or when you want the use the audio built into your phone rather than the earphone or speaker it was connected to.

Make A Phone Work With Wifi Only

You can use a VoIP service on a computer or tablet with Wi-Fi access.

You can use Voice over Internet Protocol technology to make voice calls over a Wi-Fi connection without needing a cellular voice plan or a data plan. Not all cellphones can use these services, however, and most VoIP service providers require that you download and install a software program to your phone via the Internet. For this reason, Wi-Fi VoIP is limited to smartphones and other portable devices capable of running apps developed for mobile operating systems.

Instructions

1. Open the app store associated with your phone. These stores are called by various names, depending on the brand of your phone. For example, Apple iPhone users refer to this service as the "App Store," while BlackBerry users call it the "App World." Search for the keywords "voice over internet" or "voip" to bring up a list of VoIP apps.

2. Select a VoIP app to download from your app store. Typically, clicking on an app displays a description of its features and a download button. Click this button to commence the download. Some apps are free, others require that you pay a fee prior to downloading. Wait for the app to download to your phone. Most phones display a graphic that shows the download's progress.

3. Open the application and follow the instructions to enable VoIP calls on your cellphone. These steps differ between applications, but typically, you'll be prompted to enter some personal information to create a username and password. This generates a user profile that you can use to log in to the service when you want to make a VoIP call.

4. Dial the number you want to call on the app's keypad, which looks like the keypad of a standard touchtone phone. This is the app's keypad, and it should not be confused with your phone's built-in keypad. When you are finished with your wireless VoIP call, log out of the app. To make future calls, open the app and enter your login information.

Transfer Your Tracfone Number To Another Service

You can transfer your Tracfone to another carrier.

Transferring your Tracfone number to another wireless carrier is a simple process known as "porting" and can be accomplished at the time of activation through your new wireless carrier.

Considerations When Transferring Your Number

You will need to have your Tracfone account number, phone number and phone identifier (ESN, MEID or IMEI) in order to transfer your number to the new carrier. Local number portability is also only allowed in your own cellular market.

Ease Of Transfer

Provide your phone number and account information to your new carrier. The new carrier will perform the "phone number porting" on your behalf.

Time Considerations

It can take up to 24 hours for a full port to take place. However most porting will occur in a matter of minutes.

Cost Of Porting

There is no cost for porting your number from Tracfone to a new carrier, however, you will lose any remaining minutes left on your pre-paid account and your new carrier may charge you a new line activation fee.

Phone Type Considerations

CDMA Tracfones will only operate on CDMA networks (Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, etc). GSM phones will only work on networks that accept SIM cards (AT&T, T-Mobile, etc). Ask your carrier if your Tracfone is a supported unit.

Format Video For Cell Phones

MPEG-4 is the most commonly-used cell phone video format.

With so many formats available in the digital world, it is sometimes difficult to know which format is the proper one to use. When it comes to cell phone videos, the most common format is the MPEG-4 format. If you have a video that is not in MPEG-4 that you wish to get onto a cell phone, there are a few easy steps you can take to convert your video to the proper MPEG-4 format.

Instructions

1. Open your improperly formatted video on your computer's media player. In order to convert your video to the MPEG-4 format, you are going to need a media player, such as QuickTime or Windows Media Player, that can convert the video for you. Open up your video in one of these players.

2. Set the export settings. In your media player, you can choose to click either "Save As" in the File menu or "iTunes" in the Share menu to change your export settings. When clicking either one of these options, a window will show you the current export settings. If they are not already set to MPEG-4, change them to MPEG-4.

3. Click "Save" or "Send" to export your video. Depending on if you chose to use the "Save As" method or the "iTunes" method, you will see a button in the Export Settings window that says either "Save" or "Send." Clicking that button will properly export your video in the MPEG-4 format.

Make A Phone Call Over Wifi

As long as your computer is connected to Wi-Fi Internet and has a microphone installed, you can make a phone call to any landline or cell phone you'd like. You'll need to install one of a few different types of computer programs. You'll also need to make sure that your Wi-Fi connection is strong and secure, as you don't want it dropping out right in the middle of a phone call.

Instructions

1. Use Skype (see Resources section). You have to download and install Skype. Once set up, you can use your computer's microphone and Wi-Fi connection to make telephone calls to any number you'd like. Rates will vary depending upon the location you're calling.

2. Use Gizmo5 (see Resources section). Much like Skype, you have to download and install Gizmo5. Once the software is installed, however, you can use Gizmo5 in conjunction with a Google Voice account to make free phone calls over a Wi-Fi connection in the same way you would if you were calling on a regular cell phone or landline phone.

3. Use Google Talk (see Resources section). The Google Talk utility allows you to make calls directly from your web browser. You don't have to download and install a computer program or any other type of software. You do, however, have to sign up for a Google account to use the Google Talk. This account is free, and will come with a free Gmail address as well.

Reinstall A Sound Driver

A sound driver is piece of software that instructs a computer to properly use a sound card. A computer needs sound drivers to play sound. If you accidentally delete your sound drivers or install a new driver that makes your sound card stop working, you may need to reinstall your original sound drivers to regain basic audio functionality.

Instructions

1. Locate an installer for you original sound driver. This can be the biggest issue when one accidentally deletes a sound driver. Computers and sound cards come with driver CDs, but you may not be able to locate the original CD. If you can't find your driver CD, you will have to download the old driver from your computer manufacturer's website or from your sound card manufacturer's website. Use the device manager by right-clicking on My Computer, selecting Properties and then selecting the Hardware tab to look for sound, video and game controllers and to learn more about your sound device.

2. Delete the currently installed sound driver before reinstalling the old one to avoid conflicts. To uninstall the driver, use the same device manager menu from Step One, select your sound device and click Properties. There should be an option under properties to uninstall the drivers.

3. Run the auto installer on the original drivers. The installer will take you through several general steps, which will probably only require you to click Next a few times without changing any settings.

4. Restart your computer when the driver installer is finished.

Why Is My Power Window Not Working

Fixing a power window isn't complicated, claims Popular Mechanics. Most fixes, however, require the removal of door panels for access to the power window mechanism.

Both Windows Not Working

A blown fuse is the likely culprit if both windows quit working, says Popular Mechanics. Check the owner's manual for help locating the fuse box and the fuse associated with the power window. It's also possible the power window relay is bad.

Windows Moving Slowly

According to Popular Mechanics, the window mechanism is easily misaligned because of the constant friction with the window glass, causing the windows to move slowly. Try lubricating the tracks of the mechanism to decrease friction. If the window still moves slowly, check the voltage of the window motor at the plug while activating the power window button.

Only One Window Not Working

The a1mechanics.com website claims the most common culprit if only one window isn't working is a bad switch. Test each switch with a meter while the ignition is on. Wiring may also cause one power window to stop working, which can be tested by visual inspection or replacement of wires.

Unlock A Nokia 6101b

Unlock a Nokia 6101B

When you purchase a Nokia 6101B mobile phone from a network provider, the phone is locked to prevent you from using it with a different carrier. If you want to switch providers, you need to unlock the phone with a special code. Although various websites offer unlocking software, using a paid website is more reliable. Free unlock codes seldom work, and you risk locking your cell phone permanently if you enter the wrong code five times.

Instructions

1. Obtain your Nokia 6101B's IMEI, or identification number, which is necessary for generating the unlock code. Type "*#06#*" on your phone's keypad and the 15-digit IMEI number will appear.

2. Go to a website that provides unlock codes for free (See the first two links in Resources).

3. Enter your IMEI number, cell phone carrier and your email address. Click the button that says, "Generate Code/Get the Unlock Code."

4. Remove the existing SIM card from the phone and turn the phone on. Enter the unlock code (the code will start and end with a pound sign). You will then see a pop-up message, "Phone Restrictions Off."

5. Do not try more than two or three codes provided by the free website. If you can't unlock your phone, proceed to Step 6.

6. Use a paid website for getting a guaranteed unlock code for your Nokia 6101B (See Resources to find links to paid websites).
