Blackberry User Tools For Mac

Blackberry PDA devices can be used with Mac.

Blackberry PDA devices are used by wireless customers from corporate users to teenagers around the world. They are not known for being able to communicate with Mac computers, but that is a misconception. With the right software you can easily manage your email, contacts and device programs via a Mac computer.

Entourage

Entourage is the equivalent to Microsoft's Outlook program. It allows users to receive email to their computers and also allows users to sync their Blackberry address information in the same manner as Outlook does. This program is included on all Mac operating systems such as Leopard.

Pocket Mac

Pocket Mac software is the equivalent to the Desktop Manager software that is included with the Blackberry when you purchase the device. The Desktop Manager software only works on Windows-equipped computers. Pocket Mac allows a user to back up email and contacts to Entourage. It also allows you to sync your calendar, appointments, pictures, third-party applications and music.

iCal

iCal will interface with your Blackberry and allow you to sync important calendar appointments as well as integration of appointment reminders. This is important because this is a feature that Entourage does not have. However, just as Entourage is included in the Mac operating system, so is the iCal software.

Open Iphone

The iPhone is an advanced piece of consumer technology available on today's market. The iPhone combines the technologies of cell phone, portable music player and Internet connection and browsing. The iPhone contains a multitude of tiny, electrical components allowing these applications to run simultaneously. For the technologically savvy consumer, opening the iPhone to reveal these inner components can unlock the secrets behind its engineering.

Instructions

1. Lay out your clean cloth on a table or other flat surface. This will be your workspace. A clean cloth will prevent smaller pieces from becoming soiled, which can hinder future operation of your iPhone.

2. Find the black plastic antenna cover on the back of your iPhone. Open a small blade on your pocket knife and begin to pry open the black plastic. Work from left to right along the bottom of your iPhone. The iPhone uses two snapping points along the bottom of this plastic to lock in the antenna cover. Loosen these snaps and remove the black plastic cover. Set the black plastic piece aside.

3. Loosen the screws that are revealed. These secure the larger gray metal backing on the iPhone. Set these screws aside after they have been removed.

4. Remove the gray metal backing from the iPhone. This will take some force, but be careful not to break smaller pieces in your iPhone. Use your Swiss Army knife to pry the gray metal backing away in the same manner as Step 2. Alternatively, you can use a small suction cup on the front of your iPhone to make it easier to separate the front components from the back cover.

Change A Wheel Bearing On A Saturn Vue

The Saturn Vue employs both front and rear wheel hub bearing assemblies. These assemblies come from the factory complete with unserviceable bearings already pressed into the hub. They require no lubrication since they are sealed units. Inside the assembly is enough lubricant to provide service to the bearing for a certain amount of time. Some bearings can reach 100,000 miles or more. Changing the front or rear hub bearing assembly in the Saturn Vue requires the same procedure with a couple of subtle differences.

Instructions

1. Engage the parking brake after placing the Vue on a flat, paved surface.

2. Remove the hub cap or center cap from the tire in question if applicable.

3. Break the lug nuts loose 1/8 of a turn counterclockwise with the lug wrench. Break the spindle nut loose one full turn with the breaker bar and a 34-mm spindle nut socket for a front bearing or a 30-mm spindle nut socket for a rear bearing.

4. Lift the Vue with a car jack and place a jack stand beneath the SUV to support it. Finish removing the lug nuts and then remove the wheel.

5. Locate the caliper bracket mounting bolts on the back side of the backing plate. Use the breaker bar and appropriate size socket to break them free and then switch to a ratchet to speed up the process.

6. Gently pry the caliper assembly off of the rotor using a small pry bar. Use a length of mechanic's wire or rope to bind it to the coil spring of the suspension to avoid it from dangling from the rubber brake hose.

7. Remove the rotor from the hub flange. Finish removing the spindle nut from the spindle with a ratchet and the appropriate socket.

8. Spray the front and rear hub flanges with lubricating spray on the front and rear where the bearing retaining bolts are located. The front Vue bearings employ three retaining bolts and the rear bearings use four. Allow the penetrating lubricant time to soak in.

9. Disconnect any ABS sensor wires connected to the hub bearing assembly. If you follow the wire (if applicable), you will find where it is plugged into the harness. Be sure to disconnect it from every retaining device along its length to the plug. A new wire and plug will come with the replacement bearing assembly.

10. Remove the hub bearing retaining bolts, breaking them free with the breaker bar first and then switching to the ratchet.

11. Use the hub puller (if necessary) to pry the hub bearing assembly from the hub.

12. Clean the mating surfaces of the hub and bearing assembly with emery cloth or sandpaper. You will need to manipulate the spindle of the drive shaft to clean the top of the hub surface.

13. Install the new bearing by reversing the steps. Use the torque wrench to tighten all bolts to the recommended torque specifications. You can find these in the owners manual or in a repair manual specified for the Saturn Vue. The parts store that sold you the wheel bearing assembly can look up these specs for you at no charge.

Find Out The Ip Address Of A Network Drive

Find Out the IP Address of a Network Drive

A network drive is a folder or drive on another device (on the same network as you) that you have assigned a drive letter to. While mapping a network drive can be done without knowing the IP address of the computer the drive is physically attached to, knowing the IP address of the computer can help you troubleshoot when you are unable to reach the network drive.

Instructions

1. Click "Start" and then "My Computer," or double-click "My Computer" if it is on your desktop.

2. Click the network drive. It will be labeled (drive's letter) on "computer name" where the drive's letter is the letter assigned and computer name is the network name of the computer that the drive is physically attached to.

3. Click "Start" and then "Run." Type "CMD" (without quotes) and then press "enter." A command window will appear.

4. Type "ping computer name" (without quotes), where computer name is the network name of the computer your drive is connected to. The screen will display "Pinging x.x.x.x..." The "x.x.x.x" will be the IP address where the network drive is located.

Open An Iphone 2g

Open an iPhone 2G

The iPhone 2G has a metal backing that makes for a better fit than later all-plastic iPhone models', but the process of opening the 2G is different from that of later iPhones. Opening the iPhone 2G requires patience because there are a lot of interlinking parts that were discontinued in later models. Once opened, parts such as a cracked LCD screen or damaged logic board can be replaced by the owner. Opening up the iPhone 2G yourself, rather than having it done by an authorized service center, will completely void the Apple warranty.

Instructions

1. Place a soft cloth down on a table. Straighten out the paper clip. Insert the paper clip in the small hole at the top of the iPhone 2G. Push the end of the paper clip into the hole until the SIM tray begins to pop out. Pull out the SIM tray and place it aside.

2. Put the iPhone 2G face down on the soft cloth. Push in the two tabs at the edge of the black connector on the bottom using the utility knife. Push in the two tabs farther up on the black connector. Remove the black connector from the iPhone 2G's case.

3. Insert the utility knife into the bottom of the iPhone 2G between the dock connector and the antenna cover. Pry the antenna cover upward.

4. Carefully insert the utility knife into the gap between the antenna cover and the front bezel. Slide the utility knife toward one edge and go around the corner until you encounter the metal backing. Reinsert the utility knife between the antenna cover and front bezel. Slide the utility knife toward the other edge and go around the corner until you encounter the metal backing. Remove the utility knife.

5. Use the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver to remove the three screws at the bottom. Remove the rear bottom panel from the iPhone 2G.

6. Insert one end of the toothpick into the small square hole. Wiggle the toothpick to dislodge the inner rear panel. Pull the inner rear panel up. Insert the utility knife between the rear panel and the metal bottom and push up to dislodge a corner of the metal bottom. Repeat the process on the other side of the bottom.

7. Use the utility knife to pry the metal bottom up off the front of the iPhone 2G. Put the bottom case aside. Use the utility knife to pull the copper colored headphone cable off the logic board on the front of the iPhone.

8. Peel off the orange tape from around the white antenna cable on the side of the front of the iPhone. Use the utility knife to remove the two antenna cables attached to the logic board. Use the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver to remove the three screws that are now exposed near the camera module and on each side of the logic board.

9. Use the utility knife to pull the camera connection off the logic board. Remove the camera module from the front of the iPhone.

10. Insert the utility knife between the front of the iPhone and the battery. Wiggle the battery free. Lift the battery up slightly. Insert the utility knife between the front of the iPhone and the logic board at the position where the camera module was located. Wiggle the logic board free. Lift the logic board up slightly.

11. Use the utility knife to remove the two ribbon cables from the right side underneath the logic board. Use the utility knife to remove the ribbon cable from the left side underneath the logic board. Insert the utility knife beneath the black locking bar on the logic board and pry the logic board farther up from the front of the iPhone.

12. Hold onto the battery and the logic board and slide them both away from the orange antenna and out of the iPhone. Put them both down on the soft cloth.

13. Use the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver to remove the three screws holding the front bezel to the iPhone. Rotate the front of the iPhone 90 degrees and unscrew the two screws with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.

14. Rotate the front of the iPhone 90 degrees and unscrew the three screws with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver.

15. Rotate the front of the iPhone 90 degrees and unscrew the two screws with the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver. Remove the front bezel from the front of the iPhone. The iPhone 2G has now been fully opened.

Easily Install A Print Server On A Network

Connect all your computers to a printer with a print server.

Many households have multiple computers. Instead of having a separate printer connected to each computer, you can designate one printer to take care of your printing needs. This will help to save valuable space and eliminate unwanted clutter. Figuring out a way to connect multiple computers to one printer doesn't have to be a difficult task. In a few short steps, you can successfully set up a print server on your network.

Instructions

1. Purchase a printer server. Using a USB print server is easy to set up. Just connect your printer to the printer server and then connect the print server to a wireless router. You can subsequently print documents wireless from any computer connected to the network. Make sure your designated printer is turned off before you start the entire process.

2. Make your network recognize your print server. After successfully connecting the print server to your wireless router and designated printer, you will need to locate your print server's default address. Choose a static IP address that is not being currently used on your network. Determine the IP address of the networked computer you are currently using by navigating to the "Start" menu and selecting "Run." In the Run dialog, type "ipconfig/all" (without quotes) and click "OK." Your computer's IP address appears.

3. Enter the IP address of the print server in a Web browser. After using the configuration tool, you will need to change the IP address to the one that matches your network. After making the changes, save the new settings.

4. Access the "Add Printer" wizard to place your newly networked printer to your existing home network. To do so, navigate to the "Start" menu and click " Devices and Printers." Then click "Add a printer." In the "Add Printer" wizard, click "Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer." Select the desired printer and click "Next." If prompted, install the printer driver on your computer by clicking "Install driver." Follow the remaining steps to complete the process.

Check The Original Manufacturing Date For A Nokia Bp6m Battery

The Nokia BP-6M is a lithium cellular battery compatible with various Nokia phones, such as Nokia N-series phones and 6000-series phones. The newer your Nokia BP-6M battery is the more use you can get out of it. If you have a Nokia BP-6M lithium battery you may think there is no way to tell how old it is, but all cellphone batteries contain a code on the manufacturing label that tells how old the battery is. You just need to know read it in order to find out the battery's age.

Instructions

1. Locate the 15-character alphanumeric code on the label on the bottom of the Nokia battery.

2. Locate the ninth position on the code. This letter represents the year that the battery was made. "A" represents 1990 and goes all the way to 2015, which is "Z." For example, if the letter at the ninth position is "D" then the battery was manufactured in 1993.

3. Locate the 10th and 11th positions on the code. These two letters represent the week of manufacture. "A" represents "0" and "J" represents "9." For example, if the tenth and 11th positions read, "AD," then that would represent the third week of the year. "EG," would represent the 46th week of the year.

Nokia released the Xpress Music 5300 mobile phone in 2006 as a way to combine a powerful music player and a cell phone in a small, inexpensive package. The Nokia 5300 also comes with Bluetooth technology installed, so the phone can wirelessly connect to a Bluetooth headset. In order for the Bluetooth headset and the Nokia 5300 to communicate, they both have to go through a pairing process where the phone searches for the headset and establishes a connection.

Instructions

1. Push the left softkey to access the main menu. Scroll to "Settings" and push the button in the middle of the direction pad to select it. Then scroll to and select "Connectivity" and then "Bluetooth."

2. Scroll to "Bluetooth On" and select it to turn on your Bluetooth technology.

3. Put the Bluetooth headset into pairing mode. The exact process will vary depending on your model of headset. Many newer headsets go into pairing mode automatically if they do not find a connection. For older headsets, you may have to hold a button, or combination of buttons, for several seconds to get the headset into pairing mode. Check the documentation that came with your headset for specific instructions.

4. Scroll to "Paired Devices" and select it. Then press the left softkey, which will be labeled "New." A list of devices will show up on the screen.

5. Scroll to the name of the headset and press the softkey labeled "Pair." Enter "0000" when the phone requests a passcode.

Problems With Slide Phones

Sliding phones are popular, but can be problematic.

Mobile telephones come in a variety of styles with dozens of different features. Some cell phones flip open and others have a screen and keyboard on a flat surface. Some people prefer phones that slide (up and down or side to side). Sliding cell phones are made up of two parts that attach at a hinge to allow access the keyboard and buttons to type information. When done, you can slide the two parts back together for storage. As cool, innovative and convenient as the sliding mechanism may be, this feature also can be problematic.

Jamming

One issue that sliding phone owners may experience is a jammed sliding mechanism. This is usually a manufacturing issue. The hinge that holds both parts together either gets stuck or goes off track, making it difficult or impossible to open the phone. This malfunction can render the phone useless because you cannot access the keyboard. The owner must choose to either repair or replace the damaged unit.

Loose Sliding Mechanism

Sometimes the part of the phone that slides up and down can become loose or nearly unhinged from the rest of the phone. This problem is usually due to overuse or misuse. Pushing on or pulling the slider too hard will loosen the hinge over time. Dropping the phone repeatedly can exacerbate this issue. In a really troublesome case, the sliding part can detach itself from the base completely, rendering the phone useless.

Screen or Power Shuts Off

Another issue that is characteristic of some sliding phone models is a display or power issue when the screen slides away from the keyboard. In some cases, the screen will shut off or become distorted when it is pushed away from the base. This can happen due to stress on the connections between the LCD screen. It also could be a power supply issue or a general problem with a battery that comes loose when the user moves the slider. In extreme cases, the phone will shut down or restart every time you slide it up. This problem is the result of either a manufacturing flaw or abuse of the phone (such as dropping it often or pulling the slider too hard).

Unlock A Nokia 6230i By Phone

Most cell phones are designed for use on a wide range of networks, both local and international. The Nokia 6230i is no exception. However, service providers tend to program the phone so that it is "locked" for exclusive use on their network. This is done in an effort to reduce the number of people who abandon their service in search of lower prices or different terms of service. This "locking" process may be undone by entering a special code, which may be obtained by simply calling the service provider.

Instructions

1. Enter *#06# on the Nokia to display the IMEI number. This number is your phone's unique code and is required to generate a valid unlock code.

2. Call your service provider's customer service number and give them your IMEI number.

3. Request the unlock code. Tell them you would like to use the phone overseas, and many will happily give you the code if your account is in good order and you have completed a certain contract minimum. Call back if the first operator is unhelpful and try again.

4. Remove the battery, then remove the SIM and turn on the phone.

5. Enter #pw+code+1# to unlock the phone. For "code," enter the number received from the customer service representative. The Nokia will display a message saying stating, "SIM Restriction Off" to verify that the code was entered properly.

Make Free Calls On An Ipod Touch

Make calls with your iPod Touch.

Making calls on your iPod Touch is as simple as finding an appropriate headset with microphone and downloading a VOIP program such as Skype. Using the WiFi connectivity of the iPod Touch allows you to access the application (Skype in this instance) and make calls anywhere in the world for free (if they are a Skype user) or very cheaply (if you are calling a cell or land line).

Instructions

1. Plug in your headphones to the headphone jack on the iPod.

2. Plug the microphone into the sync connector at the bottom of the iPod. You'll need to purchase the microphone, as it doesn't come with the iPod. The first generation iPod Touch doesn't support an all-in-one headset and microphone option like the second generation does.

3. Download the Skype app from the iTunes App Store.

4. Sign up for a Skype account if you don't already have one (free).

5. Purchase credits from the Skype website if you wish to call land lines or mobile phones. You'll get free calls to any other Skype user and calls for as little as one cent per minute to land lines or mobile phones.

6. Click the Skype app on your iPod Touch and sign in with your login name and password.

7. Add friends to your Skype friends list to make free calls. You'll need their email addresses, or Skype login names to add them. Add friends by pressing the "+" button in the upper right corner.

8. Select the name of the contact you wish to call if she is on your Skype friends list. After clicking, you'll be faced with two options; call and SMS. Choose what you'd like to do, and Skype will make the call, or allow you to send a text message (SMS).

9. Click the "Call" button on the bottom if you'd like to make a call to a land line or mobile phone. Enter the number, and press "Call" to dial.

Activate Gps On Omnia

Activate GPS on Omnia

For many months following Verizon's launch of the Samsung Omnia in the U.S., users who wanted to take advantage of the smart phone's built-in GPS capability had to pay extra each month for an optional navigation service. In July of 2009, however, Samsung rolled out a new version of the Omnia software that fully activated the Omnia GPS, unlocking it for use by a full range of non-Verizon applications. To activate GPS on your Omnia, you can download the free software upgrade and install it on your phone.

Instructions

1. Visit the CF03 Software Upgrade web page (see References), and click on the operating system for your PC (Windows XP or Vista).

2. Click the link for the SCH-i910 Upgrade Tool.

3. Install Windows ActiveSync or Mobile Device Center (for Windows XP or Vista, respectively) if you do not already have it on your PC. A link on the Samsung page will take you to instructions for downloading and installing the application.

Use Gps

GPS, or Global Positioning System, is a way to navigate yourself as you drive. Rather than using map quest or one of the other software programs on your computer before your trip, you can now take your computer with you in the form of a GPS. It works off a satellite system to show you the best way to get where you need to go. Here's the basis of how it works.

Instructions

1. Put in where you are starting from. If this is a location that you will be using often, you can save it in the address book.

2. Input where you want to go. You can either type this information in or select it from your address book if it is already there. Just because you have been somewhere before doesn't mean you don't need help getting there again.

3. Calculate the route. The GPS will then ask you how you want the route calculated, for example, shortest time or shortest distance.

4. Follow the directions. A map will appear and show you which roads to take in order to reach your destination. This may take a few minutes to calculate. It is very precise. If you have also printed out directions from your computer you will probably see that there are some turns the GPS tells you to make that your computer printout doesn't show.

5. Use GPS for other things such as places to eat, places of interest and tour sights. Finding these can be challenging, but if you are a gadget person, you will do it with little effort.

6. Your Global Positioning System can also be used on your boat. You would follow the steps above in order to program it and just follow the route it tells you.

Find A Manufacturing Date For Appliances

If you're going to buy or sell an appliance, or dispose of one, you'll need to find a manufacturing date for it. For appliance disposal, you'll need to know the manufacturing date for refrigerators and freezers in particular because of the refrigerants they contain. If they were manufactured prior to 1995, they commonly contain ozone-damaging chlorofluorocarbon (CFC). Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Locate the model and serial number label on the appliance. Look on the back of a washer or dryer for the paper label. On a freezer or refrigerator, the label may be located on the inside, either on the liner or on the side of the door.

2. Check the model and serial number label for the manufacturing date. If there is no date, write down the model and serial numbers. They will likely be a combination of numbers and letters.

3. Visit the Appliance Age Finder website (see Resources) to find manufacturing dates for Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Roper, Estate and Heritage Maytag appliances. Type in the serial number and hit the "Calculate" button to find the answer. For Whirlpool appliances, visit the Appliance Aid website (see Resources) and use their Whirlpool appliance date finder.

4. Visit the Appliance 411 website and use its date code search. This site helps find a manufacturing date for appliances that were made after the 1970s or 1980s. It doesn't provide the dates for stoves, refrigerators, washers, dryers or freezers that are considered to be antiques. Use the drop-down menu to select the brand, appliance type and your location. Then key in the model number and the serial number. Click on the "Date It!" button to find the manufacturing date.

5. Locate the customer service number or email address for the maker of the appliance. Look in the owner's manual or use the Anywho free phone directory (see Resources). Have the model number and serial number of the appliance handy. Call or email the company to find a manufacturing date for the appliance.

Writing Styles For Msn

MSN allows users to communicate for free online.

MSN stands for Microsoft Network. MSN is now called Windows Live Messenger. The software is free and is primarily used as a communication software. Users can chat, talk to, video conference and send files with other users. The program offers similar functionality to Skype, AIM and Yahoo Messenger.

Fonts

Much like with a word processing document, the users of MSN can change fonts. The fonts available are numerous, and include standard computer fonts such as Arial and Times New Roman, among many others. Users can change their font color, font size and script. They can even strikeout or underline. This allows the user to customize their preferred method of communication.

Emoticon

Emoticons are symbolic facial expressions created by letters and punctuation. MSN has taken this one step further by converting standard emoticons into animated graphics. Standard emoticons are :) for happy, :D for really happy and :( for sad. There are many more emoticons, and they can get quite complex.

Slang

People who commonly use online communication methods typically will truncate words, use short versions or acronyms rather than spelling them out loud. Using these types of communication styles helps convey certain emotions, as in the case of "LOL" or "Laugh Out Loud." It can also help convey an urgent message, such as "BRB" or "Be Right Back;" this is often used when the chatter is forced to deal with something away from the computer. There are a number of acronyms for online communication.

Formatting

When communicating on MSN or online chatting, users will typically develop their own communication style or method. This may or may not reflect aspects of their personality. According to researchers Leonard Shedletsky and Joan E. Aitken, almost all communication via chat is truncated -- that is, shorter than it would be in an email. Part of the reason for this is that communicating only part of an idea may be enough for the other user to understand it. If they do not, there is instant feedback. For example, one user may ask "Dinner at 8?" The other user may respond with a simple "Yes" or if they need more information they can ask for it: "Where? Who is going? Are you driving?" In an email, all the prospective questions of the recipient may need to be answered. For example, in an email the author may ask, "Dinner at 8? I am picking up Tom and Helen and then we are going to that Mexican place on 3rd and Main. Do you need a ride too?" MSN allows users to truncate their online communication.

Download Ring Tones For A Cell Phone

The most common form of cell phone ringtone is the MP3 ringtone.

Most cell phones allow you to purchase and download ringtones, which can then be assigned to someone in your contact list. Whenever that particular person calls you on your cell phone, the ringtone assigned to them will play. In general, the most common way to get ringtones on your cell phone is to purchase and download them directly from your cell phone provider's official store. This insures that they will work on your cell phone, as some phones are incapable of playing back certain types of ringtone files.

Instructions

1. Use your cell phone to connect to your service provider's online store. To do this, in general there will be a shortcut either on your main screen (for smartphones) or within the menu for older cell phones. Find and click on the shortcut. Consult your owner's manual if you can't find it.

2. Search for the ringtone you want to download. You can usually search by song or by artist. Note that not every song will be available as a ringtone. You can also browse various categories, such as "Comedy" and "Sports" if you're looking for a non-traditional ringtone.

3. Select the ringtone you want to download. Usually this will take you to a new screen, detailing the size of the ringtone file and the cost. Accept the cost and click "Save." The ringtone will download to your cell phone and you'll be able to assign it to whomever you wish.

Call International Mobile Numbers

Working out make an international call to a mobile phone number can involve a few details. Whether the phone you are calling is a domestic phone that someone is simply traveling abroad with or if it is indeed a true international call to an international phone number changes how you will make an international call. You may need to take additional charges into consideration, so make sure to check your service provider's rate plans.

Instructions

1. Determine what type of phone you are calling from. If you are placing your call using a U.S. domestic landline phone, the charges for an international call may be much different than those made with domestic U.S. cellular phone plans.

2. Write down the phone number you need to call. If this is an international origin phone number, write down the country name as well.

3. Open your Internet browser and navigate to a country code database. Check that the country code you have is correct for that phone number. You may also contact your phone service provider for this information.

4. Pick up your phone and listen for the dial tone. If you are unsure about dialing the call, you can ask your landline operator to connect your call for you, although a fee may be assessed for this service.

5. Dial the U.S. exit code 011 and complete by dialing the country code for the phone number you are calling. Leave out the starting 0 for international numbers and continue by dial the remaining numbers after the 0 to connect. The completed dialing format is 011-country code-city code-phone number.

Activate A Verizon Wireless Cell Phone

There are three ways to activate a Verizon phone.

If you buy a new Verizon phone with new service, or replace your existing phone, you will need to activate your phone before you can make calls. There are three main ways of activating your phone: online, over the phone or in a Verizon store. It is a relatively straightforward process.

Instructions

1. Back up your contacts on your current phone using Backup Assistant online. Verizon charges $1.99 per month but if you sign up online you may be able to get the fee waived.

2. Turn off your old phone before you begin the activation process. This will eventually lead to the deactivation of your old phone.

3. Go to the Verizon website and follow the instructions. You will be prompted to input the information listed in "Things You'll Need." Go through the entire process until your phone is activated.

4. Contact customer service and activate your phone over the phone. If you are unable to activate your phone online, you can seek help over the phone. You need to have the appropriate customer service phone number for your area and your particular service. See a link in Resources to search for the right phone number. You will still need all the items listed above before you make the call. If you are activating a used phone, make sure you have the electronic serial number usually located on the back of the phone.

5. Go into a Verizon store. If you are unable to activate your phone online or over the phone, or if you need additional assistance, you can go the nearest Verizon store. Make sure you take along with you all the items listed in "Things You'll Need."

Pair A Bluetooth Headset & Motorola Cellphone

Charge your headset's battery fully before you begin.

Most Motorola cellphones support Bluetooth connections and can be used with almost any wireless headset. Before you can use your headset for hands-free conversations, you will need to pair it with your Motorola phone. Pairing creates a secure connection between your phone and Bluetooth headset, allowing them to connect when they are within range. Bluetooth devices can connect over a maximum distance of about 30 feet. You should only need to pair your devices once -- your Motorola will save the headset as a trusted device.

Instructions

1. Activate pairing mode on your headset. For many headsets, this is accomplished by pressing and holding the "Power" or "Call" button for approximately five seconds, until the indicator lights flash. This step can vary slightly depending on the headset you are using -- see your user guide for details.

2. Open the menu on your Motorola phone and select "Settings." From the "Settings" menu, select "Connections."

3. Select "Bluetooth." Choose "Options," then "Search for Device." If you are prompted to activate Bluetooth, select "Yes." Your phone will begin searching for in range Bluetooth devices.

4. Select the name of your headset from the list of discovered devices. Use your keypad to enter the headset pairing passcode if prompted. This is set by the headset manufacturer and is usually "0000" or "1234." Refer to your user guide for details.

5. Press "OK." A "Pairing Complete" confirmation will display, and your phone and headset will connect automatically.

What Is A Track Phone

Marketed under the brand name TracFone and owned by a company of the same name, the TracFone mobile telephone is offered on a pre-paid plan. Many people choose to use TracFones because of the lack of a contract as well as the availability of cellular service. TracFone is the leader in wireless prepaid services in the U.S.

Coverage

TracFone pre-paid phone services offer better service than other providers because they use the towers of other carriers to create a larger coverage area. Both national and major regional carriers rent airtime to the TracFone Company, allowing TracFone users to have coverage in various areas where other cell phone users may not be covered.

Phones

TracFones are not limited to one brand and style of phone, but offer phones from many of the top cell phone manufacturers. LG, Motorola, Kyocera and Nokia phones can be programmed for use with as a TracFone. TracFone even offers popular phones like the Motorola RazR.

Bill Options

There are three way of obtaining and adding usage minutes and service days to TracFones. The Pay As You Go plan is distinguished by the need to purchase cards that add minutes and days to the TracFone. Annual and monthly plans can also be used with TracFones, but without the hassle of contracts. Annual and monthly plans are also pay-as-you-go plans but without the need to remember to purchase additional minutes and days of service.

Benefits

Along with no contracts, TracFone also offers a minute rollover feature that is beneficial to the experience of using TracFone service. If minutes are not used up before the days of service expire, the minutes will be rolled over to the next term of service. Minutes will not expire when days of service expire.

Included Features

TracFone offers many of the features offered by other cell phone providers. Voicemail, caller id and call waiting come standard on all models of TracFone phones. Other features will be specific to the phone the TracFone user purchases. Possible features include speaker phone, downloadable ring tones and Bluetooth technology.

Texting and Talking

Text messaging, or texting, may be included for free on certain services provided by TracFone. Other TracFone services may charge airtime units or talk minutes as the charge for text messages sent and received. Talk time is charged with units. Each minute spent on the line results in one used service unit. When roaming outside of the U.S., two units are typically charged per minute spent on the line.

Set Up Email On Your Iphone

Setup E-mail on Your iPhone

The Apple iPhone is much more than a cellphone. Like most popular smartphones on the market, it can run applications, connect to the Web for surfing and send and receive email. Setting up an existing email account on the iPhone takes only minutes.

Instructions

1. Turn on the iPhone and tap the "Mail" icon on the home screen.

2. Choose your email account type from the splash screen that appears. Choices include Microsoft Exchange, MobileMe, Gmail, Yahoo!, AOL and Other.

3. Enter your email address, username and password. If this is one of the account types listed, with the exception of Other, you are now done. If you select "Other," there is more work to do.

However, you'll likely be asked to specify a service type -- iMAP or POP, for example -- and your incoming mail server, which will resemble "mail.example.com." Enter your outgoing mail server in the format "smtp.example.com." If you have this email account set up on a computer, the information can be located there. Otherwise, see an IT professional at your office or seek the information in any documentation you received from your email provider.

Tips On The Nokia E71

Released in 2008, the Nokia E71 is part of the company's extensive line of smartphones and comes with a variety of features, including a built-in digital camera and GPS application. Becoming familiar with the E71's specifications and features will help you find tips for getting the most out of the phone.

Battery Tips

A standard lithium-ion battery, when fully charged, provides the Nokia E71 with up to 480 hours, or 20 days, of standby time and up to 10.5 hours of talk time. Compared to similar devices on the market at the time of publication, these times rank above the 448-hour average for standby time and the seven-hour average for talk time. It's important to understand that these times are produced in an ideal laboratory setting and not in real-life situations. By disabling the phone's Wi-Fi and GPS capabilities and minimizing the screen's brightness level you can help maximize the phone's battery life and bring it closer to the times reported by the manufacturer.

Wi-Fi Tip

Using the Nokia E71's Wi-Fi feature can save you money. Most wireless service providers require subscription to a data plan that gives the phone access to the Internet using the provider's 3G wireless network. By using the E71 to access the Internet within range of a Wi-Fi hotspot, such as at home or work, you can purchase the least-expensive data package from your provider. This will give you unlimited access to the Internet for the price of a small smaller data allotment.

Memory Tips

With 110MB of data storage space, needing to add memory to the Nokia E71 is more of an eventuality than a possibility. Using the phone's micro-Secure Digital card slot, you can give the phone up to 8GB of expanded memory, creating more room for adding large-scale files, such as videos, photos and applications. The E71 supports microSD cards, which offer up to 2GB of memory, and high-capacity microSD cards, which provide between 2GB and 32GB of memory, up to its 8GB limit. You can maximize the phone's memory by occasionally checking the phone's contents for unused or unwanted files and deleting them.

Bluetooth Tips

The Nokia E71 comes with a variety of Bluetooth profiles that allow you to perform several wireless tasks, such as transferring files and hands-free calling. The headset profile (HSP) and hands-free profile (HFP) allow you to place and receive calls using either the phone's speakerphone or a wireless headset. The object push profile enables you to share files with another similarly equipped device. The file transfer profile (FTP), not to be confused with the File Transfer Protocol, allows you to not only share files with another device, but to view the files on the device with which the E71 is communicating.

Connect Voip To A Phone Line

A home phone can easily be setup to use VoIP.

VoIP is winning over many users of traditional phone lines. By making phone calls through the Internet, long-distance fees are greatly reduced. As VoIP calls run along a different system than regular landline calls, there is a common misconception that you can only use VoIP to call other VoIP users. This is not the case. By hooking up a VoIP adapter to your phone system, you can contact and receive calls from any phone, even those using landlines.

Instructions

1. Connect your VoIP adapter to your Internet router using the cable provided.

2. Connect your telephone to the VoIP adapter. This connection port will likely be labeled "Line In" or "Line 1."

3. Plug your VoIP's phone adapter into an outlet. Your phone adapter may take a few minutes to connect to the VoIP network.

4. Pick up the receiver and listen for dial tone. Once dial tone is present, you are ready to make calls. You can now make calls to your contacts using traditional phone lines exactly the same way that you did before connecting your VoIP adapter.

What Does Infinity Mean On An Ohmmeter

Ohmmeters test the resistance and current between two leads.

An ohmmeter tests the electrical resistance and current between two leads. Ohmmeters come in a variety of shapes, sizes and expenses and can be used to test resistance on a wide range of electrical components and determine whether they are defective. Does this Spark an idea?

Significance

When an ohmmeter points to the infinity symbol, it means that there is no continuity between the two test leads and that an open circuit is present.

Considerations

The way an ohmmeter is set up may be confusing. The infinity sign is on the far left of the meter, while the zero is on the far right. This is because analog ohmmeters read from right to left. When using an ohmmeter, it is important to note that a short circuit will record as a very low reading, not a reading of infinity.

Prevention/Solution

Make sure the switch for the appliance or equipment you are testing is turned on even though it is not plugged into an electrical outlet. If the switch is turned off, the ohmmeter may record an infinite reading--that is, an open circuit.
