Convert Sims

Mini-SIM cards can be converted into Micro-SIM cards.

Today, certain mobile devices, such as the Apple iPad, use Micro-SIM cards, instead of the more common Mini-SIM cards. Mini-SIM cards are currently used in most cell phones. Although the cards have the same metal contacts on the back of them, the plastic part of Micro-SIM cards are smaller. Converting your Mini-SIM card into a Micro-SIM card is useful if you have an existing SIM card that you want to your in a mobile device that only uses Micro-SIM cards.

Instructions

1. Remove the SIM card from your phone. Turn the card over, with the ridged corner of the SIM card pointing upward, to the right. The metal contacts should be at the bottom of the SIM card when you turn it over.

2. Measure 15 milimeters from the bottom of the SIM card upward. Mark 15mm with a pen, pencil or other writing utensil. Place a dot or line at the 15mm mark.

3. Measure 12mm across, beginning at the same point where you marked 15mm.

4. Trim the card across, at the 15mm. Trace the marks using a cutter knife. Then, cut along the marks with a pair is scissors. Soften the edges you cut using a filing tool.

5. Place the SIM card into your device. Remove the battery compartment, battery and insert the SIM card. Make sure the card fits. If it does not fit, not which edge needs to be trimmed further. Carefully trim any edges, making sure not to cut the metal contacts on the back of the SIM card.
