Install Ipk Files On The Palm Pre

With the webOS Quick Install application, you can download and transfer .IPK files to your Palm Pre. The .IPK file is a compressed, archive format extracted from the Debian Linux package format (.DEB) for installing software on hand-held devices such as the Palm Pre. An .IPK file can be a "home brew" file, created by consumers to add extra functionality or capabilities to software not available in the original application.

Instructions

1. Launch your computer's Web browser and navigate to forums.precentral.net. Click "webOS Apps and Software," "webOS Developer Forums," and then "Canuck Coding." Click the "webOS Quick Install" link that matches your computer's operating system. Click the webOS "Download" link and save the download to your desktop. Double-click the webOS download to install the software onto your computer.

2. Turn your Palm Pre to "Developer" mode. Clear any cards displayed and type ""upupdowndownleftrightleftrightbastart" into the text field. Click the "Developer Mode Enabler" icon when you see it display. Click "Okay" to reboot your phone when prompted.

3. Connect your Palm Pre to the computer by inserting one end of its USB cable into the computer's USB port and the other end into the Palm Pre's data port. Click "Just Charge" on your Palm Pre screen.
