There are two ways to activate a Verizon Wireless cell phone: You can either do this from your computer via an Internet connection with a "My Verizon" site account or you can activate directly through the phone you are activating by dialing *228. You will need to activate a Verizon cell phone if you purchased a new or used phone from an outside vendor or over the Internet. If you purchase the phone in a local Verizon store, the sales representative will do this for you.
Using My Verizon
Go to Verizonwireless.com and scroll onto "My Verizon" to pull up a sidebar for personal, prepaid or business accounts. Another sidebar will branch off of the type of account and you will need to either sign in or register to an account. To register, you will need your billing telephone number and the temporary PIN given to you by Verizon. If you do not have a PIN, you can click to receive one by following the site instructions. Once registered, sign into "My Services" located on the top navigation bar. From there click on "My Phone" located to the left. Next you will see "Activate Phone" on the right. You then need to click on "Activate New Phone" or "Activate Equipment."
Activation Using Cell Phone
Dial *228 using the phone you want to activate or you can call customer service, using another phone, at 1-800-922-0204. If you dial *228 an automated voice will respond that your phone is activated.
