Setup Bluetooth For Skype

Skype can be configured to work with Bluetooth headsets.

Skype is an application for using the Internet to make both audio and video calls to users around the world. The major problem with Skype is that it tethers you to your computer with a headset connected to the computer or with using the built-in speakers and microphone. Installation of a Bluetooth headset allows the user to continue calls away from the computer and accomplish other daily tasks.

Instructions

1. Purchase a Bluetooth adapter for your headset. Many computers come with Bluetooth capabilities already as part of the hardware package. If you do not have this then you can buy an adapter that connects via the USB port. Follow the driver installation instructions that come with the adapter.

2. Turn on the Bluetooth headset. Add the device to Bluetooth applications on your computer. On Windows, Bluetooth can be accessed via the Bluetooth icon in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. Open it and click "Add Device". From the provided list find your Bluetooth headset and select it to pair the device with your computer. On Macs click on the Bluetooth icon on the bar in the top right hand corner of the screen. From the drop down menu click on the "Setup Bluetooth Device" option. The Bluetooth Setup Assistant guides you through the process of adding your headset.

3. Open the Skype application. In Skype for Windows open the "Tools" menu and click "Options". Select "Sound Devices" and choose "Bluetooth Audio" for both the audio in and out options. In Skype for Mac, open the "Skype" menu and click on "Preferences". Select the "Audio" tab and change the audio options for both in and out to "Bluetooth headset".
