Use A Cell Phone To Talk Over Voip

Several cell phone providers allow their phones to use applications that place VoIP phone calls.

Several VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) providers have created applications to allow cell phones that connect to the Internet to be used as devices that will allow the user to place a call using the phone's Internet connection. The advantage of this service is that it will allow for the user to not use cell phone minutes when there is an Internet connection present.

Instructions

1. Turn on your phone and make sure that the phone is connected to the Internet. This connection can be via WiFi that allows your cell phone access. Some phones will allow VoIP calls to be made over their Edge or 3G Networks, but some providers restrict VoIP calls unless they are made over a WiFi network.

2. Download a VoIP application that will work with your phone's operating system. Popular VoIP services such as Vonage or Skype allow for usage of your service with mobile applications that can be downloaded for little or no cost.

3. Launch the application on your mobile device and log into the services selected. Skype and Vonage require separate services to use their VoIP service on your mobile device. They may require a fee or to sign up for their service before they can be used with your mobile phone.

4. Dial a test number with your application. Making this test call will ensure there is a quality signal over the phone line you are calling and that your voice and sound are coming across clearly.

5. Place calls using the new VoIP application. Make sure that you are in an area that provides the best possible signal for your Internet connection.
