What Is A Software Service Agreement

A software service agreement lays out the conditions under which an individual may use the software, as well as any obligations of the software producer. It primarily covers acceptable use, legal restrictions, liability and services provided by the software producer.

Legal

The primary purpose of having a software service agreement is to legally protect the producer of the software. It may cover such matters as liability, guarantees, copy protection and other matters of law. Some of the stipulations are subject to change based on the country in which the software is sold.

Services Provided

Any guarantees, offers of updates or support offered by the producer of the software are listed in the software service agreement. Frequently, a product life cycle statement is included. This indicates the period of time for which the producer plans on offering support or updates to the software.

Other

A variety of other subjects may be covered in a software service agreement including payment information, privacy or confidentiality agreements, matters involving trademark and copyright and more. In virtually all cases, a user must accept the software service agreement in total and unedited before installing or using the software.
