Connect Skype To A Phone

It is possible to connect some phones to the Skype network.

Skype enables users of certain mobile phones to talk or send instant messages for free over an Internet connection. If connected to 3G or Wi-Fi, compatible mobile phones can make Skype-to-Skype calls and Skype calls to other phone numbers worldwide. Skype is one way of reducing what you pay for long-distance calls.

Instructions

1. Open your Internet browser and go to "Skype.com."

2. Click on the "Get Skype" button, in the top center of the page.

3. Scroll down through the options on the page, until you see the "Skype for Mobile" option. Click the "Get Skype on your mobile" button.

4. Click the "View Compatible Phones" button, to see if your phone is compatible with Skype mobile. If it is, click on the model of phone you have from the selection provided. For iPhones, you will be redirected to the Apple application store for download instructions. For Nokia and Sony Ericsson, you will be presented with the "Skype for Symbian" page.

5. Enter your mobile phone number in the download box and click the "Send SMS" button. This will send an SMS (Short Message Service) to your mobile phone with the mobile phone link provided.

6. Open the SMS on your mobile phone. Select the link provided by Skype and open it. You are redirected to a Skype mobile page where the download begins. If this does not happen, follow the instructions provided by the page. The download may take some time to complete depending on the 3G network speed or whether you are using a Wi-Fi connection.

7. Open the Skype application on your mobile phone. You will be asked for a Skype user name and password. If you do not have one already, set up a Skype account and log in. Your phone should then be connected with Skype.
