Unlock A Nokia N96

Unlock a Nokia N96

All Nokia N96 models use unique unlock codes to lift the restrictions on using SIM cards from other wireless networks. Cell carriers install special branding software that blocks the phone's ability to use SIM cards from other networks. The subsidy unlock code lifts this restriction and permits the client to use the phone with any company. Many service providers will give you the subsidy unlock code for free.

Instructions

1. Press *#06# on the N96 to display its IMEI number. This number is unique to each phone and is needed to obtain the unlock code.

2. Call your wireless provider's customer support number. Request the subsidy unlock code and give the representative your IMEI number. Most companies issue the code to any client who has been with them for 90 days or more.

3. Turn off the N96 and remove the battery. Remove the SIM card and reinsert the battery. Turn the phone on.

4. Enter #pw+CODE+1# and the phone will display "SIM Restriction Off," indicating that the phone is now unlocked and ready for use with any SIM card. Replace "CODE" with the code issued by the customer service department. Canadian phones from Fido or Rogers must use #pw+CODE+7# instead.
