Make Flashing Cell Phone Lanyards

Create a flashing lanyard for your cell phone.

If you feel like your cell phone needs some extra bling, try making your own flashing cell phone lanyard. Not only does this personalize your cell phone, it makes it easier for you to find in the dark and harder to lose. Making these lanyards may seem like a task, but it's really quite simple. Flashing charms come in all shapes, from snowflakes to margarita glasses to flip-flops.

Instructions

1. Cut three lengths of cotton cord about 6 inches long. They may all be the same color, two colors or three different colors. Braid the cords together without knotting the ends together. The cords should stay together easily if your braid them tightly enough.

2. Slide a split ring onto your braided cords, folding them around the ring. These rings are similar to keychain rings, but smaller.

3. Slip all six cord ends through a crimp bead. Slide the crimp bead up to the base of the split ring, securing it at the center of the braided cords. Squeeze the crimp bead with your pliers to crush it. Use a second crimp ring to hold all six cord ends together. Crimp rings are metal beads with weak sides that collapse to hold things in place; you'll need a large one for this project.

4. Pry apart the coils of your split ring, finding one end of the coiled wire. Slide the loop of your flashing charm onto the ring and slide it over the wire until it moves freely on the ring. You can now adorn your cell phone.
