Convert Music To Ringtones Using Windows Media Player

Convert music to ringtones in WMP.

Windows Media Player supports three basic music formats: MP3, WMA and WAV. Fortunately, many cell phones support one of these types of audio as ringtones. You will need to edit your music down to proper ringtone length, since ringtones are generally between fifteen and forty seconds long. (As long as your audio is in the proper format and of proper length, it is compatible with your phone). However, Windows Media Player requires a plug-in to edit music within its library, since its standard versions do not support this feature. You will need to download the WMP Trimmer Plug-In, which allows for editing music and video. Please note that since this plug-in only operates for WMP 9 or higher, it is important to download the latest version of Windows Media Player before you begin.

Instructions

1. Download the latest version of Windows Media Player from Microsoft. Agree to all terms of use and install the program.

2. Direct your browser to download the WMP Trimmer Plug-In. Agree to the terms of use and install.

3. Open Windows Media Player. Select "Plug-Ins" from the "Tools" menu at the top of the screen and choose the "SolveigMM WMP Trimmer Plugin" option.

4. Open the music file you want to trim by selecting "Open..." from the "File" menu. Locate the audio on your computer and choose to open it.

5. Navigate, using the WMP Trimmer slidebar, to the point at which you want your ringtone to start. Click the "Click to Start!" button. Repeat for the end of your ringtone and press "Click to End!"

6. Press the "In" button to cut the music on either side of your "in" and "out" points.

7. Choose a save location on your computer, when prompted, and click "Save." Your music is now ringtone compatible and can be transferred to your cell phone.
