Check Your Voicemail From Another Phone

If you accidentally leave your cellular phone at home, or your phone battery dies and you have no way to charge it, you could end up missing an important phone call. There is a way for you to check your voicemail from another phone, however, allowing you to keep track of your calls and reducing the change of you missing plans, job opportunities, or even emergency calls. If you have already set up a passcode for your phone's voicemail, you can easily check your voicemail from another phone by following the steps below:

Instructions

1. Find a touchtone landline or cellular phone. You can check your voicemail from any other type of phone, including Internet phone services like Skype, so which type of phone you choose is irrelevant. The only requirement is that the phone you use must be touchtone or (for example, with Skype) have touchtone capabilities. Rotary phones will not work.

2. Dial your cell phone number from another phone.

3. Allow the phone to ring and listen for the voicemail prompt. As soon as your voicemail message begins playing, press the asterisk (*) key. You can press the asterisk key at any time during the voicemail message, but once the message finishes and you hear the tone indicating that you should leave a message, you have waited too long. If this happens, hang up and try again.

Note: For some cell phone services, it is the pound (#) key that allows you to check your voicemail from another phone. If, when hitting the asterisk key, you skip the voicemail message entirely and are prompt to leave a message instead of entering your voicemail system, hang up and try again using the pound key to check your voicemail, instead.

4. Enter your 4-digit voicemail passcode. You created this passcode when you initially set up your voicemail. When finished, press the pound (#) key.

Note: Some cell phone services allow 6-digit or 8-digit passcodes instead of 4-digit passcodes. If this is the case, you will need to enter your entire 6- or 8-digit passcode to check your voicemail from another phone.

5. Check your voicemail as you normally would from your cell phone. The key commands you use to navigate your voicemail on your cell phone are the same commands you use to navigate your voicemail from another phone. You can play and delete messages, set up a new voicemail greeting, and suspend voicemail activity once you have access your mailbox.
