Receive Phone Calls In Gmail

Using your computer and a headset or microphone, you can receive free phone calls.


Cell phone technology keeps getting better and better, yet cell phone bills are not always decreasing. You can save on your phone bill without avoiding making phone calls. Google now provides a way to accept incoming calls for free. The process is simple and can help you save on your monthly bill. Using your Gmail account you can accept any number of incoming phone calls for free. If you do not have an existing Gmail account you can sign up for a free account.


Instructions


Set Up Google Voice account


1. Go to the Google Voice website (see Resources).


2. Log on with the same credentials as you would with Gmail.


3. The Google Voice website will ask you to choose a phone number. Select one from the list provided or type in your own number to see if it is available.


4. Press the "Settings" link on the upper, right corner in the Google Voice website. When the drop-down options are shown, press "Voice Settings."


5. Select the check box in the "Phones" tab to make sure your Google Chat account is checked as a forwarding option.


Receiving calls in Gmail


6. Log into your Gmail account.


7. Press the "Call phone" link in the chat box. The first time you do this, you will be asked to install a plugin. Save the file to your computer and install it when it is finished downloading.


8. Open Gmail each time you wish to receive a call on your computer. When you are not logged in to Gmail, all phone calls to your Google Voice number will be sent to voicemail.
