Hook Up Fring With Skype

Fring and Skype allow voice chats without using cell minutes

Due to multiple business practice and licensing disagreements, Skype and Fring are no longer compatible as of July, 2010. While this is subject to change, it is still easy to enjoy both products on your smart phone -- you'll just need to install them separately. Fring can easily manage your MSN Messenger, Google Talk, Yahoo Instant Messenger, AIM and other messaging programs, while the Skype application will have Skype-only compatibility.

Instructions

Installing and Using Fring

1. Download and install the Fring application on your smart phone. Fring is currently available in the iPhone App Store, Nokia's "ovi" store and for Android devices. Downloads are available via your chosen application store, or via SMS (text) message links directly from Fring. If you're only interested in the Skype service for your smart phone, you can skip to the "Installing and Using Skype" section below.

2. Open the Fring application on your smart phone and create a Fring account by inputting the requested data. You can simply log in if you are an existing user.

3. Select the services you want Fring to manage. You will be asked for your login information for each service selected.

4. Chat, call or message contacts you have synchronized. Fring can now manage all your selected services in one place.

Installing and Using Skype

5. Download and install the Skype for mobile application on your smart phone. Skype is currently available for the iPhone, Nokia's Symbian phones, some BlackBerry devices and most Android devices. Downloads are available via your chosen application store, or via SMS (text) message links directly from Skype.

6. Open the Skype application on your smart phone and log in to your account. If you're a new user, input the data requested and this will log you into the service.

7. Add contacts by clicking the upper-right plus sign ("+") or other "add" buttons. With some devices, you can import your phone's address book to add to your Skype contact list.

8. Chat, call or message contacts who are online. Some carriers and devices will allow voice chats over 3G networks, while others are limited to Wi-Fi only.
