Modern cell phones can transfer data as well as voice. While 1985's cell phones could only make and receive calls, 2010's phones can deliver text, picture, and video messages as well.

Cell phones in 1985 used analog technology to make calls, which resulted in worse call quality and more excess static than what is experienced with 2010's digital cell phones.
Entertainment
Cell phones in 1985 performed only the functions of a telephone, and they were only used as telephones. In 2010, cell phones can record and play video, serve as a music player, and browse the Internet.
