Pair A Phone With A Bluetooth

Common Bluetooth headset

Some cell phones and smart phones have built in "Bluetooth" capabilities. This allows them to "pair" wirelessly with other Bluetooth devices. Some devices, such as Bluetooth headsets, allow you to talk without having to hold the phone to your ear. Other Bluetooth devices such as PDAs, computers and other phones can connect to a Bluetooth phone to transfer files between the two devices.

Instructions

Turning On Bluetooth on Phone

1. Navigate to the "Settings" menu on your phone. Either look for an entry titled "Wireless settings" or "Bluetooth Settings." Select either of these options.

2. Select the option to access "Bluetooth settings" under "Wireless settings" followed by the option to "Enable" or "Turn on" Bluetooth. Note that some phones will have this option listed as "Set to Discoverable."

3. Wait a few seconds for the Bluetooth to activate. Some phones may have a blue status light that will begin blinking to indicate that Bluetooth is on.

4. Look for the device you want to "pair" with under the list of available "Devices" under the Bluetooth menu. If the device does not have its Bluetooth currently turned on, proceed to Section 2, Step 1 of this article. If already on, proceed directly to Section 1, Step 5.

5. Select the device to "pair" with. If prompted enter a "pass key" that's either provided by the other Bluetooth device or created by you. If you create a new "pass key" you must enter the same one on the other device if required.

Turning On Bluetooth on Other Device

6. Locate the "Bluetooth" button on the headset if you are trying to pair a Bluetooth headset. If you are pairing with another phone, PDA, or computer, proceed to Step 3.

7. Press the "Bluetooth" button until the blue status light comes on. Wait for the "headset" to appear on the phone under the device list and select it to connect.

8. Navigate to the "Bluetooth" settings section on the other phone, PDA or computer. Select the option to "Enable Bluetooth" followed by "Set to Discoverable" if the option is present.

9. Create a new "pass key" or enter the current pass key if prompted. Wait for the prompt indicating that the devices are "paired."
