Format The Memory On An S40 Phone

You can format the memory on your Nokia S40 phone.

Most modern Nokia cell phones run the Series 40 user interface, better known as S40. If you are switching to a new phone or giving your S40 phone to another person, you should format the memory on the device. Formatting the memory will completely reset all of the phone's settings and erase all of its data, so make sure you have backed up your contacts, pictures and other files before proceeding.

Instructions

1. Press the "Menu" button on your S40 phone to launch the main menu.

2. Go to the "Settings" section and then select the option labeled "Rest. factory sett" or "Reset device."

3. Choose the "Restore all" option when prompted to select what you want to format. The other option is "Restore settings only," but it will not format the phone's memory.

4. Enter the five-digit security code that you have set up on your phone. If you never set one up, the default code is "12345."

5. Press the "OK" or "Enter" button to begin the formatting process. Once the memory has been formatted, the phone will restart.
