Unlock A Utstarcom Model Cdm7126c Phone

UTStarcom's CDM7126C is a flip-phone used for entry-level calling and texting. If you want to unlock it to use with a new network, in an effort to avoid roaming charges or to add an old family phone to a new service plan, try to get the unlock code from your old service provider first for free. If you can't, buy one from an online vendor. Either route is legal.

Instructions

1. Write down your 7126C's IMEI, the 15-digit number found on a label under your battery.

2. Call your old service provider, often the company that provided your UTStarcom phone. Provide a service representative with your IMEI and ask for an unlock code. If you don't have any fees to pay, and your request is granted, you'll receive your free code via email within about a week. If denied, go to one of several online vendors and pay upwards of $9.85 for a code, as of January 2010.

3. Navigate to the Resources link for a website that offers unlocking services for the 7126 series. Choose your service provider from the drop-down menu, then your IMEI number and "Add to Cart." Pay for your unlock code with your credit card. After purchase, follow the vendor's instructions for delivery of your code.

4. Plug your CDM7126C into outlet power, when you receive the code (usually via email), then remove the back cover and battery. Enter the code as instructed from your provider. (Various models have different procedures. Some, for instance, will have you remove the SIM card during the unlocking process, while others want you to remove it after the code has been entered.)

5. Turn off your 7126C after being notified on the screen that it was successfully unlocked.

6. Insert a new SIM card, replace the battery and back cover, then power on with a new calling plan.
