Remove Win32 Viruses

Win32 viruses can harm computer files or steal information.


Win32 viruses are malicious programs that affect Microsoft Windows operating systems. Win32 viruses infect computer files in order to steal information, delete or corrupt files and allow remote control of the computer over the Internet. Win32 viruses are spread through websites, e-mail, p2p programs and other methods. According to Channelweb consumers spend billions annually combating these and other viruses. Instructions


Antivirus Software


1. Launch your antivirus software by double-clicking on its program icon. The icon is found on the desktop, the start menu or in the installation folder.


2. Follow the on-screen directions to update the virus definitions and antivirus software. Updating allow the scanner to detect and remove the most current threats as well as patching any discovered vulnerabilities in the software.


3. Follow the on-screen directions to run a full system scan. The scan takes several minutes to complete.


4. Follow the on-screen directions to remove any detected Win32 viruses and other malware. Close the antivirus software.

5. Launch Windows Update from the start menu. Follow the on-screen directions to scan for, download and install necessary Microsoft Windows operating system updates. These updates include the latest version of the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool if it is not already on the computer.


6. Launch the "Run" icon from the accessories folder. Type "MRT" minus the quotes into the text box that appears.


7. Click the "Next" button when the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool window appears. Select "Full Scan" from the list and click the "Next" button.


8. Allow the scan to complete. The scan takes several minutes to hours to complete.


9. Follow the on-screen directions to remove any Win32 viruses and other detected malware. Press the "Finish" button to close the tool.
