Unlock A Nokia E71 Cell Phone

Unlock a Nokia E71 Cell Phone

The Nokia E71 usually comes locked to the network provider it was supplied by. This means that you can only use your E71 with the supplied SIM card, which can be especially annoying, for example when you are on vacation and want to make calls using a local SIM rather than pay high roaming rates. You can unlock the E71 by entering a unique unlock code. The code can be obtained for free or from a vendor.

Instructions

1. Note your E71's IMEI number. This is found on a sticker on the back of the phone, under the battery. You can also find it by dialing "*#06#" on the phone, to see it on the display.

2. Call your network provider to request that you would like the phone unlocked. Explain that you are traveling abroad and will need to use a foreign SIM in your time abroad. The network provider will email you the unlock code to enter in your phone. Some network providers might decline to do so, in which case you have to look at the paid-for unlock option.

3. Visit an unlocking company website online. There are a number of websites where unlock codes can be obtained for the E71. (See "Resources.") Give the company the phone's make and model, the service provider, country and IMEI number. You will be directed by the website through the process to obtain the unlock code, which may involve a fee. The unlock code will be emailed to you.

4. Remove the network SIM card from your E71. Switch the handset back on and follow the instructions provided with the unlock code to enter the code in the phone and unlock it.
