Set Up Bluetooth on a Computer


Bluetooth is an open wireless protocol for exchanging stat over short distances creating personal area networks. The name, Bluetooth, comes from King Harald I of Denmark who united the Scandinavian tribes into a single kingdom. Bluetooth's designers choose this name because of how the Bluetooth technology brings different communication devices together as a single network. Products with Bluetooth technology must pass an interoperability test conducted by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group prior to release.


Instructions


1. Add a Bluetooth adapter to your computer. The adapter will fit into any USB port.


2. Plug the Bluetooth device into your USB port. If the Bluetooth device is attached to your computer, then skip this step.


3. Turn the Bluetooth device on.


4. Make the device discoverable. This is when the Bluetooth device sends out radio signals to let other objects find it. Your manufacturer's website or the device's owner manual will have more information on make your specific device discoverable.


5. Click the "Start" button on your computer desktop. Click "Control Panel." Select "Network and Internet." Click "Set up a Bluetooth enabled device" under "Bluetooth Devices." The "Bluetooth Devices" window opens.


6. Click the "Add..." button under the "Devices" tab. This opens the "Add Bluetooth Device Wizard."


7. Click the "Next" button in the opening window of the "Add Bluetooth Device Wizard." This will take you to the next window of the wizard.


8. Select the device that you are trying to install, then click the "Next" button. This will take you to the next window of the wizard.


9. Enter a passkey or let the wizard select one for you. Select the option that you want and click the "Next" button. This will take you to the next window of the wizard.


10. Select "Locate and install driver software." The "Driver Software Installation" window will appear. When it is finished, the "Completing the Add Bluetooth Device Wizard" screen will appear.


11. Select the "Finish" button. Your new Bluetooth device is now installed.
