Unlock A Nokia 2630 Telstra

Unlocking your Telstra phone will allow you to use it in other countries.

Telstra is one of the largest suppliers of mobile telecommunication service in Australia. In addition to cell phone service, it offers Internet, television and landline phone service. If you purchased your Nokia 2630 through Telstra, chances are it came locked to the network. To use your phone on other networks, you will need to get it unlocked.

Instructions

1. Turn your Nokia phone off and remove the battery. Find a sticker beneath it marked IMEI. This is the international mobile equipment identification number, which is how mobile service companies identify your phone. You will need it to create the code. Write down the 15- to 17-digit number.

2. Go to an online store that sells unlock codes for Telstra phones. A few websites that you can use are GSMLiberty, FoneZones, and the TravelInsider (see resource links). As of 2010 it costs between $15 to $30 for a single code.

3. Go to one of the unlock code websites and enter your IMEI number. In the drop-down menus, select ""Telstra as the network, "Australia" as the country, "Nokia" for the phone manufacturer and "2630" as the model. Enter your email and payment information and click "Purchase Codes."

4. Get the unlock code from your email in 48 hours. Write down the code on a piece of paper.

5. Turn your phone off and take out the subscriber identity module, or SIM, card. Insert a card from a new network and turn the phone back on. You will get a message that says "Enter Subsidy Code."

6. Type the code that you received in your email exactly as you see it and press "OK." Wait for the phone to restart and when it comes back on it will be unlocked. To verify this, check that the name of the new network shows at the top of your phone.
