Make Cheap International Calls From A Mobile

If you need to contact a person or business in another country, you can make the international call from your mobile phone. While cell phone carriers offer international calling plans, the price per minute can be expensive. There are ways to make international phone calls from your cellphone without paying the high per-minute rates. In fact, you have more than one option for cheap international calls from your mobile.

Instructions

1. Download an app such as Skype Mobile, Tru App or Rebtel Mobile (see Resources) if you have a smart phone that can access Wi-Fi. With these apps, you can make calls to an international number using Wi-Fi, and in some instances 3G. When you use the app, you are not using your phone minutes. In most instances, the app is free.

2. Get a Skype to Go number if you can't use Wi-Fi on your phone and want a lower rate than your cellphone carrier offers. With a Skype to Go number, you enter the international number you want to call on Skype and you are issued a number to call. When you call that number, you reach the international contact through your mobile but only have to pay standard Skype rates. Prices vary by country. Rebtel offers a similar service.

3. Sign up for a membership with Tru For You. As of December 2010, the price is $15 per month. With membership, you get a SIM card for your phone for the country you want to call, with low rates.

4. Make an international call from your mobile using an international phone calling card. With a phone calling card, you dial a local access number and then enter the international number you want to call. You pay a set rate per minute for the call. Price per minute varies by card.
