Connect A Phone To The Internet Through A Pc

Your Internet can provide access to home phone service.


VoIP, or voice over Internet protocol, is home phone service provided through your DSL or high speed Internet connection. This phone service works using a standard home phone and a phone adapter that connects to the Internet. These phone services have many of the same features and add-ons as land line phone service, including caller identification, long distance and call waiting, and are usually less expensive.


Instructions


Vonage


1. Create an account online on the Vonage website.


2. Select the service plan you would like to purchase. After you have purchased your first month's service, your adapter will be mailed to your home.


3. Unplug the power from your DSL or cable modem.


4. Remove your current Ethernet cable from your DSL or high speed Internet modem. The Ethernet cable is the yellow cable that connects to your modem.


5. Connect the blue Ethernet cable that came with your adapter to your Vonage adapter and your Internet modem's Ethernet port. The Ethernet port will be marked "Ethernet."


6. Plug the power back into your modem and wait 60 seconds for it to power back on.


7. Plug your vonage adapter into a power outlet and wait 60 seconds for it to power on.


8. Plug your phone into the green port 1 of your Vonage adapter after the "Phone/Ready" light turns solid. Your phone service is now set up and ready to use.


magicJack


9. Create an account online on the magicJack website. Once your account is created, your phone adapter will be shipped to the address provided.


10. Plug your home phone cable into the magicJack.


11. Insert the magicJack into an open USB slot on your computer. Your phone service is ready for use.


Phone Power


12. Create an account online on the Phone Power website. After your account is created, your phone adapter will be mailed to the address provided.


13. Remove your Ethernet cable from your Internet modem.


14. Connect the blue Ethernet modem to your Phone Power adapter's WAN slot.


15. Plug your phone line into the phone line 1 slot on the Phone Power adapter. Your phone is ready for use.
