Use An Iphone As A Skype Phone

Use an iPhone As a Skype Phone

The iPhone has the ability to be used as a Skype phone using the Skype application (app) for the iPhone. Skype is a service that allows users to make free video calls, phone calls, group calls and conference calls. Skype also offers voicemail and call forwarding services. All of the Skype features are added to an iPhone with the Skype application installed on it. Note that getting Skype is free unless you are making non-Skype-to-Skype phone calls, then you need Skype credits which, as of 2010, cost 1.9 cents per minute.

Instructions

1. Press the App Store icon on your iPhone. By default, the App Store icon is found on the Home or Springboard page.

2. Press the "Search" icon on the bottom right of the screen and then press the Search bar at the top of the screen.

3. Type in "Skype" and then press "Search."

4. Press the Skype icon to see the Skype app details and the press the "Free" button on the top right of the screen.

5. Press the "Install" button that appears after you press "Free."

6. Type in your iTunes account password when the iPhone prompts you to do so and then your iPhone will download and install the Skype app to your device. Note that it is not necessary to connect to a Wi-Fi network to accomplish this so long as you have 3G network reception. If you don't have an iTunes account, you'll have to create one before you can purchase any apps, even if they are free.

7. Press the Skype app icon once it's been completely installed on your iPhone and this will convert your iPhone into a Skype phone.

8. Log in to your Skype account.

9. Press "Call" at the bottom, center of the screen, type in a phone number and then press "Call" to make a phone call. Note that non-Skype-to-Skype calls will cost you some money.
