Use A Data Cable

Data cables are used to transfer information from one device to another. Data cables come in many forms depending on the device. USB and Cat-5 are two of the most popular types of data cables. Cat-5 cables are considered data cables when used between two computers. USB cables can have different ends depending on the device. Using data cables is easy. For most devices, there is only one correct way to connect the data cable, making use much easier.

Instructions

1. Insert any software required to use your device, such as a printer, MP3 player, scanner, PDA and cell phones. This will allow your computer to recognize the device once it's connected. Software will be in a wizard format.

2. Place your device within range of your computer or other device. The range is the data cable length.

3. Locate the proper slots on your devices. The slots will resemble the shape of the connectors on each end of the data cable. If there are two different ends, place each end with the appropriate device.

4. Connect the data cable to your computer and device. In some instances, you may be connecting the cable from device to device, such as cell phone to cell phone to transfer settings. Insert the data cable ends into the slots from Step 3. If you feel any resistance, turn the connector over and try again.

5. Run any required software to connect your devices or allow the devices to connect automatically. If there are any problems, disconnect the cable and reconnect.
