Unlock A Micro Snapper

The Micro Snapper is a fliptop phone that is distributed by the Virgin Mobile network. When you purchase it the software on it comes locked. This will prevent you from using it with a different cell phone provider, which can be inconvenient if you wish to switch to a different company. You also won't be able to use your phone while traveling abroad without incurring costly roaming charges. In order to overcome this inconvenience, you will need to unlock your phone.

Instructions

1. Dial "*#06#" into your phone's keypad. A code will appear on your screen. This is the IMEI number -- a serial number that is unique to your phone -- that cell phone service providers use to identify your phone.

2. Call Virgin Mobile customer service (see Resources). Request a subsidy unlock code from them. If you are a prepaid customer, you will need to have topped up at least $80 for them to give you a code. If you are a post-paid customer, you will generally need to have been a customer for 90 days or more.

3. Turn your phone off. Remove the battery and SIM card from your phone. Insert the SIM card from another mobile service provider. You can purchase a prepaid card from a convenience store or a regular card from a mobile phone store.

4. Turn the phone back on. Type in the code that you received from customer service. Click the "OK" button, and the phone will restart immediately. Once it comes back on, the software will be unlocked.
