Unlocking a Nokia Tracfone is possible.
If you are fortunate enough to have a GSM Nokia Tracfone and you want to have it unlocked so you can use it on a different network, then you are in luck. Unlike CDMA Tracfone devices, GSM Nokia devices have a SIM card or a plastic chip that connects your phone to the network. Because of this, the device can be unlocked so it can be used on a competitor's prepaid or post-paid network. All you need is a Tracfone wireless account, a bit of information on your phone and a call to Tracfone customer service.
Instructions
1. Obtain the serial number from the sticker located under the battery, on the back of the phone. The industry term for the phone's serial number is the IMEI number. This number is printed below the bar code on the sticker.
2. Contact Tracfone customer care at (800) 867-7183 and ask to speak to a technical support rep. These reps are more accustomed to filing the necessary paperwork to have your device unlocked. They will ask you for the Nokia's model number and the IMEI number. Once they have this information, they will file a form to get the code for you.
You will not get the code on this call. It takes 24 to 48 hours to get the code because the form goes to an off-line group. The IMEI on your phone belongs to a range of IMEI that all share the same code. To prevent the IMEI range and corresponding code from getting out to the general public, they limit the amount of people who have access to the number ranges.
3. Contact customer care 48 hours after your initial call to obtain the unlock code. Again, ask for a tech rep. He or she is more accustomed to walking customers through the unlock process than customer service is. Tell the technical support rep that you requested the unlock code for your phone. The rep will give you the code that was listed in your account. Enter the code into the phone to unlock it.
