Many people have the same phone number for years, but sometimes you need a new number for a variety of reasons. You may have a domestic problem and want to prevent a certain person from calling you, or you may have moved and want a phone number with the area code of your new home. Verizon Wireless customers can change their wireless phone number in just a few minutes.
Instructions
Getting a New Number
1. Call Verizon at 1-800-922-0204 and speak with a representative. Use a landline telephone but have your cell phone charged and available.
2. Be prepared to provide your security code and billing information.
3. The Verizon Wireless representative will give you options for your new phone number, and they will make the changes after you make your choice.
Through Verizon's Web Page
4. Go to the Verizon Wireless Web page that allows you to change your number online (See Resources).
5. Choose the phone to which your would like to make the change. You will see only one phone if you do not have more than one on the account.
6. Click "Next."
7. Choose whether to get a new number in a new city, get a new number in the same city or port an existing number from another carrier or your landline. Make your selection.
8. If you choose to get a new number in the same city, you may have a couple of options from which to choose. Verizon will give you limited options the area code and the first three numbers. Verizon will then assign the rest.
If you choose to get a number from a different city, you will be prompted to select the location. Verizon will then give you limited options for the number you will get.
If you choose to port an existing number, you will be asked to enter the number and fill out information for your current provider for the number.
9. Click "Next."
10. Review the information you have entered and select "Next."
11. Confirm that you want to make the change.
