Update A Sprint Phone Flashed To Cricket

Update a Sprint phone you have flashed to Cricket to keep the device in good working order. When you flash a Sprint phone to Cricket, you reprogram the phone's firmware so that it can connect to the Cricket network successfully. A side effect of flashing is that you can no longer update the phone through the Sprint network. To work around this, use Cricket's software update utility to update the phone.

Instructions

1. Visit a Cricket store and activate Sprint service on the phone if you have not done so already. Flashing is only the first step in using a Cricket phone on the Cricket network -- it merely enables the phone to be used on the Cricket network, but doesn't permit you to make calls, use the Internet or install Cricket software updates.

2. Click or tap the "Wireless Update" icon in your phone's Settings menu. Regardless of which carrier you use, tapping this icon searches for the latest updates available for the device, which may include device operating system or Cricket carrier software updates.

3. Set the phone aside while the update installs, which may take several hours, according to Cricket, depending on the extent of the update.
