How Bluetooth for Cell Phone Works
Bluetooth
Bluetooth is a type of wireless communications network used primarily with cell phones. It is a way to strongly and securely connect a cell phone to a wireless device like a headset. By using a Bluetooth-equipped headset, a person can experience the benefits of talking on their phone without the use of their hands. This improves safety when doing things like driving, where holding a cell phone can be more dangerous. Bluetooth can also be used to connect other devices like computers and video game systems to headsets.
Syncing
To connect a cell phone to a wireless headset using Bluetooth, both devices must be Bluetooth-equipped. Devices that are specifically designed to work with a Bluetooth connection tend to be more expensive than other types of phones and headsets. Once both devices are powered on, they must be put into "Pairing" mode. On some model phones, this will also be called "Sync" mode. This mode allows the two devices to find each other over the Bluetooth wireless network.
Scanning
Once the phone is in pairing mode, it will begin to search the immediate area for a Bluetooth signal. By placing the headset or other Bluetooth-equipped device in pairing mode, it will then send out a signal for the phone to receive. Typically, this scan takes around a minute to complete. A list of compatible devices will appear on your phone. By using the phone's directional pad and "OK" button to confirm the selection of the headset, the two devices can now be used in conjunction with one another.
