Websites such as GSM liberty, GSM Unlock Labs and Cell Unlock offer unlock codes for cell phones locked to the Rogers network. When you enter a code into the phone, it unlocks immediately, allowing you to use any SIM card of any network both inside and outside North America. This way, you won't have to wait for the contract with your network provider to terminate; rather, you can switch to another service provider whenever you want.
Instructions
1. Visit a pay website that provides unlock passwords for cell phones locked to the Rogers network.
2. Choose your cell phone model from the list of handsets available on the website.
3. Enter your cell phone's IMEI number on the website. If you don't already know the IMEI number of your phone, type "*#06#."
4. Enter your email ID in the respective field on the website. Also, provide your credit card details to purchase the unlock code. As of August 2010, the code will cost you anywhere between $16.99 and $20. Once you confirm the payment, the website will email you the code within 24 to 72 hours.
5. Turn on the phone using a SIM card from any other network. Now your cell phone will prompt for the unlock code to activate the SIM. Enter the code you purchased from the website. The cell phone will recognize the code immediately and will unlock the phone.
