Hundreds of millions of Internet users surf the Web every day, yet many do not realize that every computer connected to the Internet has it own unique IP address - a sequence of numbers that distinguishes one computer from another. The term "IP" stands for "Internet Protocol," and without this system, chaos would reign on the Internet. An IP address consists of four numbers from zero to 255, separated by dots. You can find the IP address assigned to your computer by using one of numerous online tools. These tools are free and the results are instantaneous.
Instructions
1. Open your Web browser on the computer for which you want to know your IP address. Each computer in your home or office will have its own unique IP address.
2. Type or paste any one of the following websites into the navigation bar of your browser:
IP-adress.com
Whatismyipaddress.com
IPchicken.com
3. Wait for the page from the website you selected to load in your browser. Your IP address will be prominently displayed on the page.
4. Write down your IP address if you expect that you will need this information for some purpose, such as reporting connectivity problems to the tech support department of your Internet service provider.
