Make A Phone Call Over Wifi

As long as your computer is connected to Wi-Fi Internet and has a microphone installed, you can make a phone call to any landline or cell phone you'd like. You'll need to install one of a few different types of computer programs. You'll also need to make sure that your Wi-Fi connection is strong and secure, as you don't want it dropping out right in the middle of a phone call.

Instructions

1. Use Skype (see Resources section). You have to download and install Skype. Once set up, you can use your computer's microphone and Wi-Fi connection to make telephone calls to any number you'd like. You will be able to make a call to any other Skype user free of charge, no matter where they are in the world. If you want to call a regular landline or cell phone, however, you will be charged. Rates will vary depending upon the location you're calling.

2. Use Gizmo5 (see Resources section). Much like Skype, you have to download and install Gizmo5. Once the software is installed, however, you can use Gizmo5 in conjunction with a Google Voice account to make free phone calls over a Wi-Fi connection in the same way you would if you were calling on a regular cell phone or landline phone.

3. Use Google Talk (see Resources section). The Google Talk utility allows you to make calls directly from your web browser. You don't have to download and install a computer program or any other type of software. You do, however, have to sign up for a Google account to use the Google Talk. This account is free, and will come with a free Gmail address as well.
