Open An Iphone 3g

Open an iPhone 3G

Apple designed the iPhone 3G as a seemingly impenetrable shell, without any obvious seams or gaps to facilitate opening it up. But whether it's for repair or for mere curiosity, users may eventually want to open up their iPhone 3G and see what's inside. Though this procedure should be exercised with extreme caution--the iPhone 3G contains a variety of expensive and sensitive electronics that can be easily disturbed--it is possible for users to open the iPhone 3G case. Be aware, however, that this may void your warranty from Apple.

Instructions

Opening an iPhone 3G

1. Ground yourself by touching a metal surface to remove any static electricity that may damage the iPhone's internal electronics.

2. Use a paper clip to release the SIM card on top of the iPhone 3G.

3. Remove the two screws on the bottom of the iPhone case (by the dock) using a small screwdriver. These screws must be removed in order to release the shell.

4. Insert a tool with a small, very thin edge between the glass and the iPhone case directly above the holes where you removed the screws.

5. Pry using very gentle pressure to remove the iPhone front display.

6. Unplug the three small ribbons that attach the front display to the iPhone's back case.

7. Remove the seven screws on the back case and gently lift out the fourth ribbon to expose the iPhone's internal electronics. Depending on which piece you need access to, it's possible to further break down the iPhone to remove components such as the battery or front LCD, but this will give you visual access to any problems.
