Unlock A Cingular Sim Card

If you have a cell phone with a locked Cingular SIM card, there is good news and bad news. The good news is that unlocking your SIM card is a simple procedure that does not require that you send your phone or SIM card away. The bad news is that it's not free. However, the cost is minimal--less than all but the cheapest cell phone, in fact.

Instructions

1. Find out your phone's manufacturer and model number. Turn off the phone and remove the rear cover. Take out the battery, and underneath you will find a sticker listing the manufacturer and model details. Note this information.

2. Write down your phone's IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number. This should be listed on the same sticker as the model number.

3. Go to a website that offers cellphone-unlock codes. Examples are listed in the Resources section of this article. You will need to provide them with your cell phone's model and IMEI numbers. The website will charge your credit card to provide you with an unlock code.

4. Enter the unlock code into your phone. If you are not immediately prompted for the code when you turn the phone on, search online for instructions for inputting the unlock code into your particular phone--these instructions vary by brand and model. Once the code is entered and accepted, your SIM card is unlocked and ready for use.
