Reflash An N95

People often confuse flashing a smartphone with unlocking the device. But flashing the phone is actually a necessary step to unlocking it. If your Nokia N95 has problems with signals, software glitches or updates, it might need to be reflashed so new software can be installed into the phone.

Instructions

1. Download and install the Nokia PC Suite, which should have came with your N95 on CD-ROM. Connect the N95 to your computer via USB cable when installing the software. Make sure your computer recognizes the phone.

2. Download and install the Nemesis service suite to your computer (see Resources). This software is used to flash the phone as well as help with any other hardware issues. Click "Scan for a new device," which is located at the top and right of the screen. Click the "read" button, which will give you information about the phone, including the current product code. Insert "054-8763" if you are in the United States. Make sure the "Enable" box is checked, and click "Write."

3. Download the software updater (see Resources) and select N95. The Nokia software updater will ensure the latest firmware is installed to the phone.

4. Click the "Backup utility" option within the Nokia PC suite if you want to back up any contacts or files before the reflashing process.

5. Run the Nokia software updater you previously downloaded. Ensure the N95 is connected to your computer and do not disconnect until the flash update is complete.
