Unlock A Nokia 6500c

The Nokia 6500C, or "Classic" model, is an entry-level, toggle-operated phone with 1-gigabyte of internal memory and a 2-megapixel camera. If you want to move it to a new network, either to get a better rate or to avoid roaming charges on the road, try to get a free unlock code for it first; if unsuccessful, then you can purchase a code online for about $10. Both methods are legal.

Instructions

1. Find your 6500C's International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number. Remove the back cover and battery, then look on the label for the 15- to 17-digit code. Write it down.

2. Call the phone's previous carrier. Give the representative your IMEI number and ask for a free unlock code. You'll be told that your code will be delivered by email within five days or you'll be denied. If you're denied, navigate to one of several online vendors to pay about $10 for your code. Wait for your code to arrive in your email inbox.

3. Once the code has arrived, turn off the phone and remove the battery and old SIM card. Reinsert the battery and power the phone on. Enter the unlock code as prescribed by the old carrier or the online vendor and press "Send." You'll be informed whether the code was accepted on the display.

4. Turn off your phone, remove the battery and slide in your new SIM card. Insert your battery, replace the back cover and turn on your Nokia 6500 Classic again on a new network.
