Unlock A Nokia 6102 Cell Phone

If you want to switch your Nokia 6102 between networks, you'll have to switch out the carrier-specific chip inside the battery compartment. If your 6102 came locked from the original carrier, the phone won't allow calls through with a different carrier's chip inside. This is a software issue independent of your contractual obligation to stay with your original network. To unlock your 6102, you will need an unlock code.

Instructions

1. Go to the 6102 page of the Nokia Free site first, since it provide codes for free (see Resources). Look under your battery for the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number and enter it where prompted, along with your current carrier. Entering the generation would help but is optional.

2. Go to the 6102 page of Unlocking, GSM Unlock International, Unlock It Now or Cell Corner (see Resources). These are all pay sites. Enter the IMEI in the field provided or when prompted. Pay for the code. Wait for the code to be emailed to you and follow the instructions in the email exactly.

3. Call your current network's customer service line and ask for an unlock code based on your IMEI. The representative may give one to you for free. If the representative doesn't know help, you can call again. Use a different phone so you can read the IMEI off your 6102 and enter the unlock code while still talking to the representative. Make an outgoing call to test if it's unlocked before hanging up with the representative.
