Open A Samsung M140 Phone

A Phillips screwdriver and knife are all you need to open a Samsung M140.

The Samsung M140 mobile phone makes calls over a second generation (2G) network, and it offers many other features for the tech-savvy consumer. A 640x480 pixel camera, 2 MB of internal memory, USB compatibility and built-in FM radio give the user a number of features to explore. However, this phone was first released in 2009, and as with any older piece of technology, it's bound to experience glitches over time. If you ever need to open the Samsung M140 to tinker with the interior, you must follow some specific steps.

Instructions

1. Turn off your phone. Never open an electronic device that is powered on, because you risk electric shock or damaging the item.

2. Flip the phone upside down.

3. Press down on the plastic casing on the back of the Samsung M140 phone with your thumb.

4. Slide the plastic piece downward, toward the bottom of the phone, while still applying pressure with your thumb. With just a little pressure, the plastic piece unlatches and slides right off the bottom of the phone, revealing the battery compartment and SIM card. If you just needed to open the battery compartment, you are ready to work on the phone. To open the phone's entire outer casing, proceed with the next steps.

5. Pull out the battery. The battery rests in a small compartment, and you should be able to pick it right out of the compartment with your fingers. The SIM card can remain intact as you disassemble the rest of the phone.

6. Remove the two Phillips-head screws at the topmost corners of the phone. A small, jeweler's screwdriver works best.

7. Slide a butter knife into the open battery casing. You should notice a small metal latch in the empty battery compartment. Press the metal latch with the butter knife, and pull on the Samsung M140 phone's faceplate.

8. Open the phone by pulling off the front and back covers. With the faceplate loose and the main screws removed, the front and back covers will separate from each other, giving you access to the Samsung M140's insides.
