Skype is a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) application that is used to call Skype, landline and mobile phone users at both domestic and international numbers. You can purchase a Skype online number that will enable you to receive calls from non-VoIP phones whenever you are signed in to your account. The Skype online number features call forwarding, voicemail and other standard phone number features. As of November 2010, a Skype online number costs $60 a year.
Instructions
1. Launch a Web browser and navigate to the Skype Online Number purchase page (see Resources). Click "Get an online number."
2. Select the country and state for which you would like your Skype Online Number based.
3. Select your preferred phone number. You can use the search box to find number combinations that are easy to remember.
4. Select your payment plan and then click "Buy Now." You may need to enter your billing information and credit card number to complete the transaction if you have never purchased a product from Skype before using your account.
